I used to use a service known as "Halt To Spam" which allowed me to sign up for a temporary e-mail address (something totally random like jh34e@ijop.net) for a set time (for example, 7 days). All mail sent to that temp address was redirected to an e-mail account of my choosing until it expired. That site doesn't seem to exist anymore

That site offers your personal disposable email account. Here is how it works: Wherever you are, someone (or some webpage) asks for your email. You know if you give it, you're gambling with your privacy.

On the other hand, you do want at least one message from that person. The answer is to give them a mailinator address. You don't need to sign-up. You just make it up on the spot.  — pick anything you want.

It has a firefox plugin, so you can create a new temporary email address every time you want to sign up for something.
