This is sometimes caused by the cache left on Internet Explorer. If your internet's working fine, then follow these steps.
•    Close MSN Messenger
•    Open Internet Explorer. Set it to work offline (File -> Work Offline)
•    Close Internet Explorer and reopen it. Now set it to work online (File -> Work Offline [Untick]).
•    Open Command Prompt (Start -> Run -> type "cmd" and hit enter)
•    Type "ipconfig /flushdns". You should recieve a message that your DNS has been successfully flushed.
•    You should now be able to connect to MSN Messenger. Open MSN and see if the problem is fixed.

I hope that helps :cheesy: and if it doesnt :undecided: plz pm me the solution you find to it ;).

Also, always ensure you run the Connection Troubleshooter if prompted. Usually, it corrects minor errors.

i did all of this and still does not work, i have been corresponding with microsoft as well, 10 emails later and nothing is happening.  This is so strange cos as soon as i logged off from work and go home and connect the very same laptop to my wireless connection i can sign on immediately to WLM.  But i bring the same laptop to work and connect to the proxy server here, error signing into wlm. :S

Maybe the proxy's the problem: it could be that the company's firewall is blocking Messenger copmpletely. You may need to speak with a sysadmin to be sure though.

Hi!I had the same problem with error 80072745.
I tried every suggestion and nothing worked.
Later I realized that the problem was the antivirus ESET NOD32 that was installed on my pc.
Although I thought it could cause a problem and I had it deactivated it seems that it wasn't enough.
After uninstalling it and reinstalling live messenger everything was just ok.

RE: error 80072745 by j.moussa on 10-27-2008 at 12:06 PM

Hey. if you have the NOD32, just disable the personal firewall, antivirus and antispam protection.
Sign in to msn then enable it again.
The problem may appear again after few days, so just do the same.
Anyway if that did not make any solution tou you, disable your proxy client for a moment, sign in to msn and then enable it again.
Some proxy clients can never let you sign in so you have to let it disabled all the time.]
At the company i work for i am disabling msn messenger for seom users using ISA firewall.
If you have the ISA client there is no way you can access msn unless you disable it, coz you used msn at work and installed many configurations so when u went bk home msn can not recognise these configuration
HOPE it works with you. Regards

If you have AVG Antivirus+firewall do this:

open AVG then double click to Web Shield. Choose "Instant Messaging" and remove the pipe from MSN Protection! 100% working:D

If you are using NOD32 Antivirus, there is a resolution here:

i had the same problem. If you are using ESET Antivirus all you need to do is to add the msnmsgr.exe to the "Applications excluded from protocol filter" list. You can find that here : Setup->Advanced Setup->Antivirus and antispyware->Protocol filtering->Excluded applications.Just check the msnmsgr.exe or add it and then check it if you can`t find it there.
