file converter by qgroessl on 07-13-2006 at 04:10 AM

Does anybody know of a free file converter that I could download? My brother tried google and download.com and stuff.... I guess I don't really think his google skills are that good, but I have a friend over and can't be bothered to look right now.. But anyways, I'd rather it be a LEGAL free download... My brother needs to convert MP3 files to MIB files so that he can put them onto his cell phone. So any file converting software that can do that would be nice.

And if it's warez I'd rather not use it... but you can PM it to me so I can look at it for an option.

If you want to make MIB files, I'va never heard of them as an audio format (and you've only posted the name).

If you want to make MIDI files from mp3s automaically, you have no hope. I've looked lots, and there is no software that will make a decent sounding MIDI file from an mp3.

I'll have to ask my brother again when he wakes up... I thought he said MIB.... which I haven't heard of either so I asked him like 3 times across our house.... Could be MID, but I think it was only 3 letters long...

If your brother does mean MIDI (or .MID, they're the same thing), then it's not possible.

MIDI files stores the music as notes, whereas WAVE files (and therefore MP3 (as it's a compressed .WAV)) store music as frequencies.

Conversion between these is impossible. =[

Then why are there so much convertors for wav to midi and back?

I've never seen one of those converters. :S

Edit: I've just looked and you're right. But they won't work for songs, as the source WAV needs to be tones only.

Ah thanks... I think he must have something screwed up then... he's not too smart.... Good to know that stuff though... I never knew you couldn't convert that, I figured you could because it was all sound files and that crap.... but alright! Thanks for your replies!

Okay... but anybody have a clue how to get an MP3 file, onto a Motorola I860 cell phone :p...... winner gets a cookie

so it has mp3 ringtones... so no need to convert it just use a usb-cable or use wap like voldemort suggested...

Yeah... well, some software just takes it right off my computer, but that's not working... I'm going to have him try converting it to WAV... see if the smaller filesize of it will do the trick.
