Weather display script by Zaarin on 07-16-2006 at 03:12 AM

I would love to be able to display the weather in my personal message. Along with the date/time (which is already possible, but would prefer some formatting abilities).

eg.  13:10, 16th July, 18°C

Not sure if anyone else would want this.

RE: [Wanted] Weather display by wlmcrap on 07-16-2006 at 04:47 AM

Nice idea, wish I knew how and shouldn't you say where you live otherwise they might do it for another country or state.

RE: [Wanted] Weather display by Zaarin on 07-16-2006 at 04:49 AM

Well, I am in Brisbane, Australia, but I think the only way this script would be useful is if people could enter their own details of location.

RE: [Wanted] Weather display by wlmcrap on 07-16-2006 at 05:00 AM

Yer, that would be cool, I live in Sydney.

RE: [Wanted] Weather display by Matti on 07-16-2006 at 05:48 AM

It's a great idea, maybe alexp can help here. He made World Cup 2006 Live, which retrieved RSS information from the BBC site. If you can find an up-to-date feed which contains weather information of all locations, you can load that one and then display the conditions of that place by just choosing the right nodes. :)

But as I said: it depends of the fact you can find a feed for it. ;)

RE: [Wanted] Weather display by Zaarin on 07-16-2006 at 05:49 AM

http://www.rssweather.com ?

RE: [Wanted] Weather display by Chestah on 07-16-2006 at 06:08 AM

Talk to -dt- about this, he already has made his own weather script :P

RE: [Wanted] Weather display by wlmcrap on 07-16-2006 at 06:44 AM

Heres an Australian weather site: http://www.users.on.net/~johnson/weather/

RE: [Wanted] Weather display by markee on 07-16-2006 at 06:45 AM

Another idea along the same lines is for it to come up in a toast on command (that's personally how I'd like it).  And with the "chance of rain" or whatever else it is instead would be really nice if possible, it saves looking out the window :P

RE: [Wanted] Weather display by -dt- on 07-16-2006 at 12:11 PM

http://svn.thedt.net/release/weather.plsc

provides a /weather command as well

RE: [Wanted] Weather display by ins4ne on 07-16-2006 at 12:38 PM

how to change the script to work with luxembourg, europe?

RE: [Wanted] Weather display by Zaarin on 07-16-2006 at 12:51 PM

That works great. Exactly what I wanted.

Thankyou very much.

Oh, I just noticed.
Is it possible to make the time local?

Perhaps just make the user manually enter the GMT +10, for example.
RE: [Wanted] Weather display by -Bogan- on 07-16-2006 at 01:07 PM

Anyways anyone else having it come up command not recognized???

RE: [Wanted] Weather display by -dt- on 07-16-2006 at 01:18 PM

edit:

A lazy man deserves no help...
RE: [Wanted] Weather display by ins4ne on 07-16-2006 at 02:06 PM

yeah... cool... so what now?

RE: [Wanted] Weather display by Zaarin on 07-16-2006 at 02:07 PM

But in this case, as I was generously given what I wanted, I will give the lazy man his answer:

hardc0re:
If you look at the messenger plus icon on the top of messenger, you will notice a new menu item "WeatherPSM" and under it "Configure". I'm sure even you can work out the rest.

RE: [Wanted] Weather display by ins4ne on 07-16-2006 at 02:08 PM

i tried... i always get a message " no weather was found for that address"... so there must be another way to make that script work... some lines in the code that must be changed or something...

RE: [Wanted] Weather display by -Bogan- on 07-16-2006 at 02:31 PM

Hmm  let me see It's for some reason still not working and getting same message

RE: [Wanted] Weather display by -dt- on 07-16-2006 at 02:34 PM

anyone who has "no weather was found for that address" errors

RE: [Wanted] Weather display by -Bogan- on 07-16-2006 at 02:36 PM

Thats not the problem for me it just keeps sayin command not recognized.

I hjave un-installed previous one and installed new one but to no avail

RE: [Wanted] Weather display by ins4ne on 07-16-2006 at 02:48 PM

i used their search and found that i hope it is what you meant and you can use that for something...

RE: [Wanted] Weather display by Pho3niX^ReBorN on 07-16-2006 at 04:50 PM

I found my location as well...
http://www.weather.com/outlook/travel/businesstraveler/local/CAXX0664?
Newmarket, Ontario, Canada...

But why not use Accuweather.com?  It seriously is the best.  The ForcastFox and touchtheSky plugins for Firefox & Opera use Accuweather.

I like the Accuweather based plugins.  You can search by postal code (for us Canadians ) or by whatever else.  Although I am sure you can do the same with the source you use now.  But in the end its up to you -dt- since you are the one coding it.  My request is basically just another opinion :)

RE: [Wanted] Weather display by 4penguino on 07-16-2006 at 04:55 PM

RE: [Wanted] Weather display by Pho3niX^ReBorN on 07-16-2006 at 06:33 PM

Give him a chance dammit lol.... It doesn't automatically update just for us.  Be patient.

RE: [Wanted] Weather display by ins4ne on 07-16-2006 at 06:36 PM

sorry :( was just a question ;) dont shout at me...

RE: [Wanted] Weather display by Pho3niX^ReBorN on 07-16-2006 at 06:37 PM

Haha...don't be sorry.  Its a cool plugin and I am excited for it too.. Weird though because I am sitting beside a window...

RE: [Wanted] Weather display by ins4ne on 07-16-2006 at 06:39 PM

i think it will be very useful to tell your foreign contacts your local weather... maybe theres somebody whos interested :P

RE: [Wanted] Weather display by Vexor on 07-17-2006 at 02:32 AM

Hey I tried to use it and show my local time, but it seems that the time int here is almost 3 hours too fast for what my local time is, I have set my location correctly, and my weather comes up fine, also my date is correct, but my time is not, is there some way to set it so that it can read off the date and time from your pc? (I assume that 99% of peoples pc clocks would be correct to there time anyway)

RE: [Wanted] Weather display by Supersonicdarky on 07-17-2006 at 02:44 AM

this should be developed into a normal script: customizible by location (i havent looked at it yet so i dunno if it is already) and maybe make it also popup toasts every x minutes? this would be very useful as i cant find a good desktop weather widget (which fits my desktop)

RE: [Wanted] Weather display by Zaarin on 07-17-2006 at 08:29 AM

Yes, currently it only displays GMT. I've also requested that it be local time earlier in this thread. Even if it were a manual box where you entered "+10" or "-3" etc.

Anyway, I think this is a great start.

RE: [Wanted] Weather display by -dt- on 07-17-2006 at 08:44 AM

RE: [Wanted] Weather display by RuM_ on 07-22-2006 at 03:32 PM

Wierd, It finds my Area but dosn't show anything..

Even if i touch the line "Send current weather to contact" nothing happened!? *-)

RE: [Wanted] Weather display by cirix on 07-24-2006 at 07:34 AM

It works but it gets the wrong weather, Im in MExico City, Mexico , but it always gets New Mexico weather or Mexico, New York, Mexico City is at weather.com

http://www.weather.com/outlook/travel/businesstra...2?from=search_city

Whould It be easier if people entered the weather.com code for their city? I have seen various programs that do it that way , in example I whould input MXDF0132.
