[Request] Ballontip icon tray with login? by AlfmaniaK on 07-22-2006 at 03:37 AM

Is it possible to get the ballontip to show who is conected?
I use two WLM same time (me and my wife) and I think it would be useffull to see which WLM is mine by only stoping the mouse over the icon tray of WLM and the ballontip show my nickname or login mail...

This would be a nice script. I always have 2 messengers open. The work around I have been using for quite sometime is by using a program called PS Tray Factory (http://www.pssoftlab.com/). It costs money unless you want to crack it (can I say that stuff here :-#).

It can change the tooltip, the icon, position in the systray, almost everything, and more. It's really great. Give it a go if no one can make/help with this script or if it just isn't possible :).

On the A-patch forum you can request features.

:)
Messpatch and A-patch are patches. A patch can't do something like this as you need some programming code to alter the tooltip behaviour.

(you must use the Windows API Shell_NotifyIcon)

Patches are patches; they change some bytes around and stuff, but that's all. They are not programs running some code.

They can alter existing code, but the code must already exist, otherwise there is nothing to alter in the first place...

If you knew that then there is not much sense into suggesting this to be included in Messpatch or A-patch as a patch or as a loader (a loader is mostly a patch too)... Patches can not do this.

which you shouldn't create another thread for it... the thread is reported.

I think you don't understand what a loader or a patch is though...

What is a "patch"?
A patch is actualy a replacement of code. Most patches come in the shape of a seperate program that you have to run only once and this will alter the code of the target program permanently. For example, you can often download fixes from Microsoft to fix some bugs in their software. These are "patches". In similar way, you can download some patches for MSN Messenger like "remove-ad", "enable polygamy", "remove: user has typed message", etc... (but these are all illegal, by the way)

All this kind of patches are called also "HARD"-patches, because they alter the code permanently.

What is a "loader"?
Then there is a different kind of patch, called "SOFT"-patches or "Loaders". These do exact the same, only they don't patch a program's code in the actual programfile on disk. But they patch the code in memory when the program is already loaded. This means that no harm is done to the actual file on your disk. You still have the original file. The MSNLoader from Jnrz is such a "SOFT"-patch.
and also see CookieRevised's reply to 'Help with understanding patching'.

----------------

And also, why would they include a loader (which can not add this in the first place since patches can not do this) for a random feature? In that case you might suggest to them to include every feature which has been suggested before on these forums...
