Set message when idle? by su7an on 07-22-2006 at 03:56 PM

I've had a look around but haven't seen much on this feature.
What I liked most about the old msgplus was that I could set it to automatically change my state to something after idling for a certain period of time.

I configured it to set me as away with custom status as Idle, which appended to the end of my MSN name so it would be like:

su7an (Idle)(Away) - Custom Message!

And provide an auto-response should anyone message me.

I know we can now differentiate between away and idle states with Live Messenger, but is there a way to have it append the status to the end of our names like the old version, or even a way to differentiate the status icons? They all look the same.

Well, when I use the custom status, it all seems to work fine. However, for the '(Idle)' section you mention, when creating the status you need to add the 'Name Tag'.

e.g. :   'NAME'-'(CUSTOM STATUS NAME TAG)'-'(GENERAL STATUS)'
e.g.2 :  Fred - Eating dinner - Away

With Plus! Live you can now also set your personal message to change as well as your status.

Also, it might be useful to know that you can set multiple auto-messages, which, in my opinion, are GREAT! ;) What these do is that when someone IM's you, the auto-message (a-m) will appear. Then, if you have set multiple a-m's, if they type somthing else, then a different message will appear.
Now, to do this...
  1. In the auto-message box, type your 1st a-m
  2. Then click the ENTER button on the keyboard
  3. Now type a # sign
  4. Now continue, and type your second a-m
  5. You can continue to do this
    [/list]

    Here's an example:

    I'm not available
    #I said I'm not available
    # Hello! Can't u read? I said I'M NOT AVAILABLE!!!
    # OH! I give up! :p

Also, I think, but I'm not possitive, that if u include a command such as '/away' in your a-m, it will change your staus to a different staus (in this case, away).

So, I hope this has answered your question and helped to improve your messaging experience!(Y)  :type:

Thanks, i've got the status name tag working, but how can I have Plus! set me to that status after a certain period of time has passed?

Hmm... Good question! Was that possible in older versions?
I'll look into this more tmoz and most my answer here.
Thanx!

I'm certain it was possible in the older version. The auto-away option in the MSN preferences just wasn't specific enough for me, which is why I prefer to set an idle state :)

OK. I agree with ur opinion of the auto-away feature!
I amd looking into it, and if the worst comes to the worst, I might even create my own script for it! (I've been looking for an exuse to make one, lol) (Y)

it's not like we're paying for it, so we won't push you :P

just give us some updates when you start working!

I was just wondering the same thing... Previously i somehow managed to get MSN change to my personlized status when idling - this seems to be impossible in the live version.

If the author is reading this - please implement this feature!

It would be very convinient for my business to set an autoreply that they should try send email instead, when we are away. But it's very annoying to change to this status manually, before leaving the computer. *-)

There used to be the feature in the older version which would let you specify the time for personalized status. For example: you could specify that after 5 minutes the status should be "Out for Dinner".

If internet disconnects and reconnects so does the messenger. Then after specified 5 mins it again changed to the personalized status "Out for Dinner"
