Even better, instead of radio buttons... let the script detect which OS it is on. So the user doesn't have to specify it anymore. Should be doable.

Would be awesome if this script can be extended to backup Messenger stuff too. Like DPs, Winks, Emoticons, Backgrounds and so. Nice all in one solution :).

You can easily check if they are running XP or Vista by calling the windows API (not sure what function it is though).

Vista will return 6 and XP will return 5 for major build number.

You could have put it in a newer version now couldnt you? Plus its only really necessary if you are adding an auto update to your script. Else the link to this thread in the about box is more than enough.

Plus! doesn't save the scripts per email, they're global. As long as messenger is running you can install them...

Backing up list of scripts from MP!L's website [Image: xso_shocked.gif]. How is that gonna be useful? The site isnt going anywhere. Or do u mean to backup scripts from the scripts folder with their settings?

ofcourse not the list from the site. the list from MsgplusLive configuration. maybe if possible (problably not) with all the script settings. at least a list of them, as something may happen you will know what scripts you used. i dont know all which i downloaded and no longer have edited (the settings) since the first configuration.

I think you forgot to configure the settings *-). Without configuring, it wont work [Image: msn_sad.gif]. To configure either type /besettings or click on settings in the Script Menu.

Anybody have any issues installing Backup Extreme!  I keep getting that it failed to start.  I tried it on a friends computer also and failed also.  I'm running 8.0.0792 and Plus 4.01.0.240  Any ideas why this would be happening?

I am using: windows vista

Hi, I think this script is a great idea. Few suggestions though

  • Auto detect Windows (using build number)
  • Allow users tick options for what they want to back up (not everyone is going to want to back up all the options)
  • Scheduled backup
  • Save default location

Finally, I think you should investigate this topic. It scripts works very well for backing up CE (custom emoticons). It would also be very easy to reconfigure it to do DP (display pictures) as well.

Do the tick options and also store where the backup directory is after the user does it for the first time (a registry flag or something). Good luck!

The emoticons and all, I always could backup them just not put 'em back [Image: msn_sad.gif] So i never had put that feature in there [Image: xso_undecided.gif].

Very nice script, however I have some suggestions:

  • Perhabs you can use ZIP packages? I have no idea if there's a way to pack/unpack ZIP files with scripts, but you can look for it. :P
  • Don't use toasts to notify the backup status. I tried to backup and it made my Messenger crash. What about a status window, with progress bar and description? Maybe you can also add a Cancel button there. ;)
    If you need help with that, just ask me on WLM. :)

and i'm using xp

..so when i want to do a backup, the script doesn't work!

I'm a French user of WLM, and backup extrem doesn't work !!!

I've updated my prefs, whit the destination folder I want the backup to be put... But when I use the command "/beexport", it wrotes me that the command is invalid...

You can ONLY get WLM and MP!L on XP (until VISTA came out), which means of course it's not a problem with XP :p

I'm working on the new version atm. Hopefully it should overcome all bugs faced till now. Even this version won't FREEZE messenger while a backup [Image: msn_tongue.gif]. And yea it will be out before the 19th for sure. Also it will work on Vista too [Image: msn_happy.gif].

Old topic - new question.

I recently switched up to Vista and overall love it.

However during the process of reinstalling my little tweaks and such, I've encountered a problem with 'Backup Extreme'.

I've installed other scripts that work, but when I went to install "Backup Extreme" it said that it had installed correctly but failed to start. If I go into the scripts and try and enable it by clicking 'Apply' I get the error message:

"Couldn`t start script "Backup Extreme. The script may be defective or may not have the proper privileges to run scripts"

Now I can run all the other scripts fine - its only this one that is inactive. Unfortunately its also the only way I know of to retrieve my saved songs from Messenger Plus. I tried copying the dat files from my old directory to the new one, but Messenger Plus only sees the new sound bytes I've added since into the sound library.

EDIT - oops sorry apparently I missed a couple of posts and didn`t see this was already reported. Hopefully there will be a fix eventually :D

Last I heard, Felu was busy with stuff in real life. Didn't seem like he had a lot of time for development so don't feel bad if the new version of the script gets delayed a (fair?) bit (or even indefinitely).
