msg+ crashing my system!! by jakis on 08-02-2006 at 05:12 PM

i think the new msg+ (4.1 i believe) is badly written
casue since i installed it ive been continually getting the "stop error"
the stop error is when windows encounters and error and automatically restarts my entire system.
and when i went to troubleshooting, it said that a common cause of these is
"poorly written 3rd party programs"
i dont know if its just me or are other people having this problem too?
i dont know

plz help cause i rly like msg+ but if its gonna srew up my comp im not gonna run it:S

did you download the installer from the official site?
http://www.msgpluslive.net/download/

you probably did. but it's best to ask..

Edit:
try downloading the plus live installer again. uninstall messenger and, delete the old folders (of plus in case there are any and messenger)

install WLM again and try installing plus again. see if that works

Blue Screens of Death (BSoDs, what you call "STOP" Errors) are caused by kernel level errors, caused by drivers or programs that hook to the kernel. Messenger Plus! Live, doing none of these, can not be responsible for these crashes.

That's the default behavior in Windows XP, the computer restarts instead of showing the BSoD...

The problem might be caused by some adware or spyware hooking to WLM that happens to have some imcompatibility with Messenger Plus! Live.

well actually i did do a virus and adware check, that might have fixed the problem too:P

Messenger Plus! Live, being a user level program, is highly unlikely to bring down the system. However, Windows is not as immune to kernel crashes as systems like Linux, so if there's a number of problems concerning a number of apps, the combination can take down the system. In this case, it's likely to be another 3rd-party program that's also hooking into WLM, which conflicts with Plus! at a low level, causing system instability.

And the sort of program that will do that is spyware or a virus.

i have been encountering a blue screen of death error on 2 of my 3 pcs at home, i fixed on my dads pc though by uninstalling a recent security update from update.microsoft.com via system restore. obviously theres a rogue security update on microsofts servers, this might be the cause of your problems if so use system restore back to an earlier point before the BSOD's occured. worked for me.

There won't be a rogue update on Windows Update whatsoever, so your uninstallation fixing the issue was coincidental.
