Has anyone here got.... by vaccination on 08-04-2006 at 02:43 PM

...Guild Wars?

I saw it in the shop today, Guild Wars: Factions.

I was wondering if anyone here has it and thinks i should get it, or if there is something better out there?

Also is the "Factions" the first one or is it an add-on? And do i need any previous one to play it?

Thanks for the advice/help.  :P

It's OK, not the best game I've ever played on. I've never played on Factions though - it's an add-on I believe which needs the first one, but I'm not sure...

One of the best things I remember from it, is you can draw on the mini-map and it shows up on all your teammates maps aswell :O

WoW looks like a better online game though I've never played on it :P
Oblivion is the best ever though :D

Hmmm okay i might consider Oblivion then, is the elder scrolls version an add-on?

I don't like WoW because you have to pay monthly and so on. :(

It should say that on the box if you need a prior version...

Good point. Thats a bonus of getting Guild Wars, you just pay once.

On the Guild Wars website FAQ:
quote:
Guild Wars Factions is a stand-alone product. Those who own Guild Wars are not required to purchase Guild Wars Factions in order to continue playing on their game account, and those who purchase Guild Wars Factions may play without purchasing Guild Wars. However, there is a strong level of interconnection between the two games that makes having them both an exceptional experience.

Oh, I forgot to mention:
If you know someone who has got Guild Wars already, then you can borrow the game CD of them and install it. Then you can set up an account cheaper than it would be to buy the game, this can save you some money ;)
Or, to log-in for free, each account can have 3 or 4 different characters so you and a friend can share the account and have different characters to play with.

Sorry if that doesn't make much sense, I haven't played on it for a bit :P

It didn't :undecided: But it looks like i can play it without it.

Thanks jimcando, maybe i will see if anyone has it, but i don't think i know anyone that does.

And about Oblivion i got it the wrong way around, do you have to have any of the previous elderscrolls games to play oblivion?

No it's a standalone game.

Just so you know, you need a top-of-the-range computer to play it well :P
And if you dont have an awesome computer, then there's a mod called Oldblivion that works wonders :D

Guild Wars: Factions is an add-on to the first, but you won't need the first game to play it. It's basically got all of the original game in it (as you would have to with an MMORPG and also the latest additions to the game.

Apparently it's a very good game. When looking for new games, try looking through reviews on www.gamespot.com or www.ign.com

Bah, i'm a guild wars addict.

Guild Wars has a campaign called 'Prophecies' which tells the story of you playing through the flameseeker prophecies in a land called Tyria... Very good game, i loved it and have quite a few top level characters. Also, alot of things have come out so you can do lots of other stuff when you hit level 20 and complete the campaign (ie, going to do the uber hard quests in Sorrow's Furnace).

Guild Wars Factions is a seperate campaign called 'Factions'. You get two new professions as well, and it's set in a different land, the land of 'Cantha' which is, in my opinion, not as good as Tyria. There are two different Factions that you can side with if you belong to a guild to help win over land (there is an ever changing border between the two factions within Cantha). You can either play this as a seperate game, with a seperate account, or you can join the two games together if you have both. If you join them together you have 6 player slots instead of the normal 4, and you can also travel between Cantha and Tyria via a boat from Lion's Arch in tyria (not too sure on the place in Cantha).

In my opinion, Factions is average at best, but the original Prophecies campaign is awesome. It's pretty cool having the new professions and lands to explore if you are used to the first one but i still find the original a much better play.
