[REQUEST] - OFFLINE MESSAGES by AmbulanceX on 08-07-2006 at 12:40 PM

would love to know if its possable and if someone wants to make it..

a script that makes you more aware that your contact is offline, instead of just that small yellow info bar, i need something more visible because im sick off accidently sending offline messages thinking my friends are still online after just having talked to them.

please, would be great if anyone can do it. will.

RE: [REQUEST] - OFFLINE MESSAGES by Shondoit on 08-07-2006 at 01:08 PM

Would a locked textbox be an option?
Like, you can't type anything at all?

It should be pretty easy...

RE: [REQUEST] - OFFLINE MESSAGES by AmbulanceX on 08-07-2006 at 01:14 PM

yeah that could be alright as long as you can unlock it.

but what would be best (for me) would be if it were just to turn red or something.. dunno, anyone?

RE: [REQUEST] - OFFLINE MESSAGES by Shondoit on 08-07-2006 at 01:15 PM

Once it's locked, it can't be unlocked that easy, maybe with a timer after some period...

I was thinking about an alertbox, but that becomes anoying, I think

RE: [REQUEST] - OFFLINE MESSAGES by AmbulanceX on 08-07-2006 at 01:18 PM

yeah, the first time you go to send an offline message it alerts you, but i ticked the box not to be alerted again, would be rather annoying, so something simple, a popup that only covers the text box, then fades away as you type, i dunno something like that. red and distinct.

RE: [REQUEST] - OFFLINE MESSAGES by Shondoit on 08-07-2006 at 01:21 PM

I think the best I can do is a text in the textbox, saying the contact is offline
A red frame over the textbox would be way, way, way too difficult

Does someone else have an idea?

RE: [REQUEST] - OFFLINE MESSAGES by AmbulanceX on 08-07-2006 at 01:24 PM

yeah thats a good idea.

RE: [REQUEST] - OFFLINE MESSAGES by Shondoit on 08-07-2006 at 01:35 PM

kj, I'm on it now

RE: [REQUEST] - OFFLINE MESSAGES by hmaster on 08-07-2006 at 01:38 PM

I made this a while back. Very basic but it does the job that you want.

Features
- Shows a toast if the contact is offline and you send a message.
- Has a menu which can enable/disable it incase you do want to send a Offline Message

Known Bugs
- In a group conversation with people that you do not have on your contact list the popup still shows.
- Sometimes does not save settings.

RE: [REQUEST] - OFFLINE MESSAGES by Shondoit on 08-07-2006 at 01:50 PM

Or you can use this one...
Notifies tou when a user goes offline

Well, it should do that, haven't tested it that quick, but it shouldn't give any problem...

RE: [REQUEST] - OFFLINE MESSAGES by Shondoit on 08-07-2006 at 01:57 PM

@HMaster
Yours is a great solution...

Do you mind if I optimize your script?
I think it could be made better...
And you have a few errors too

RE: [REQUEST] - OFFLINE MESSAGES by alexp2_ad on 08-07-2006 at 02:04 PM

Best way would be to have an alert box on first message after offline saying "This contact went offline, do you still wanna send this message?  Yes | No", if they click no, return "" otherwise return the message, that'd be easy.

I'd do it now, but I can't sign in to WLM properly at uni. >.<

RE: [REQUEST] - OFFLINE MESSAGES by Shondoit on 08-07-2006 at 02:06 PM

That would get very annoying, imo

RE: [REQUEST] - OFFLINE MESSAGES by alexp2_ad on 08-07-2006 at 02:29 PM

Hmm, I wouldn't think so, just for one message after they're offline?  How often is that really gonna happen?  Surely a locked text box is more annoying.  *-)

Oh well, your opinion.

RE: [REQUEST] - OFFLINE MESSAGES by Shondoit on 08-07-2006 at 02:31 PM

I already stated that a locked textbox won't gonna work, instead I write a message in the textbox saying the contact is offline instead of a popup

RE: [REQUEST] - OFFLINE MESSAGES by markee on 08-07-2006 at 02:37 PM

Personally I prefer alex's idea of the pop-up if you send a message and they are offline.  If I am halfway trough writing something when they go offline (most likely situation) then I wouldn't take any notice of some text in the textbox but a pop-up would definitely grab my attention.

Ooh, tell me that wouldn't be annoying if you've almost finished typing a massive message and it gets replaced with "<Warning, contact is now offline>" or something. :P
RE: [REQUEST] - OFFLINE MESSAGES by Shondoit on 08-07-2006 at 02:44 PM

Hey, at least your not gonna send an Offline Messsage:P
But I like HMasters solution, I haven't got a response for optimizing it, but I'm doing it right now, just waiting for approval to release it...

I'm done rewriting it, I also added the option to send a message anyway, even tough BOM is enabled by clicking the warning toast
And the settings are now stored in the registry...
Hope I hear from you soon, HMaster

I definately think this is a promising option (but instead of clearing th emessage, maybe just cancelling the sending of the message).

Sure like I said, I started it ages ago just never bothered to finish it. Go for it (Y)
RE: [REQUEST] - OFFLINE MESSAGES by Shondoit on 08-07-2006 at 05:14 PM

Okay, here it is...
Do you mind if I have full rights?
I thought, I'll ask, 'cous some people don't like it when people change everything
Maybe I'll upload it to the Script Database?

You'll still be credited as the author

RE: [REQUEST] - OFFLINE MESSAGES by hmaster on 08-07-2006 at 08:38 PM

Very Nice (Y)
Yeah you can submit it to the DB :)

RE: [REQUEST] - OFFLINE MESSAGES by artfuldodga on 08-08-2006 at 12:49 AM

I think it would be cool if the Text Area.. is Grayed out for a specified amount of time that you can change in the plus menu

Offline Message Manager

- Enable/Disable Text Area [ 5 ] (Grays out the Text Area etc for 5 seconds, so you cannot type anything, until 5 seconds has passed)

- Disable Offline Instant Messages (When contact is Offline, keep the Text Area Disabled & Gray, prevents sending Messages)

What do you guys think you can do?

Perhaps intergrate this into helping when you send a Mobile Message to someone as well, same options :P

RE: [REQUEST] - OFFLINE MESSAGES by Shondoit on 08-08-2006 at 12:53 AM

I could add it, and you can disable it in the menu, but that'll have to wait 'til tomorrow, I'm going to sleep right now

RE: [REQUEST] - OFFLINE MESSAGES by artfuldodga on 08-08-2006 at 12:55 AM

No Prob :) keep my suggestion in mind for Mobile Messages also :)

RE: [REQUEST] - OFFLINE MESSAGES by AberNStein on 08-08-2006 at 01:27 AM

if anyone cares i wrote a tutorial on making the infobar red (or any other colour) so that it's more visible.

RE: [REQUEST] - OFFLINE MESSAGES by AmbulanceX on 08-08-2006 at 06:44 AM

good work shondoit, script is exactly what i needed, thanks to the guy that did it in the first place too. thankls for all your help.

RE: [REQUEST] - OFFLINE MESSAGES by Shondoit on 08-08-2006 at 01:40 PM

Well, I checked it today, and unfortunately, I can't lock the EditText, it is a read only property. The last script is the best I can do

RE: [REQUEST] - OFFLINE MESSAGES by artfuldodga on 08-08-2006 at 02:30 PM

i don't think i personally really need a warning....

i do like the idea that somebody spoke of first, grayed out txt area etc (as if you yourself were offline)

see my previous post on it :)!

edit: oh.. i see, problem with permissions... gerr..

RE: [REQUEST] - OFFLINE MESSAGES by Shondoit on 08-08-2006 at 03:03 PM

Luckily it's a bit more than a warning. It also blocks the message, it wont send it, unless you click the toast...

So you Can Not send an offline message by accident...

RE: [REQUEST] - OFFLINE MESSAGES by alexp2_ad on 08-09-2006 at 02:40 PM

Hi, I made my version of this concept.  It will ask you if you're sure you want to send a message if the person has gone offline while you were talking.  It won't annoy you with messages if the person was offline when you opened the window with them, and it'll only warn you one time.

It has no menu, no options, it should just do it's stuff.

RE: [REQUEST] - OFFLINE MESSAGES by AmbulanceX on 10-28-2006 at 06:48 AM

been a long time since i was in the forum, but thanks alexp2_ad that was exactly what i needed and i get to use it instead of the other one, because it got annoying. cheers.

RE: [REQUEST] - OFFLINE MESSAGES by Baggins on 10-28-2006 at 12:57 PM

just return null if the contact is offline (maybe a toast as well).
