bypass steam (no, not hacking) by Supersonicdarky on 08-11-2006 at 03:20 PM

i have half-life 2 and it runs fine, when i want to download hl2-lost coast, it says that my pc doesnt meet system requirements. Originally lost coast was meant to be part of half life 2, but was removed. If hl2 runs fine on my pc, why wudnt lost coast. So is it possible to make it think i have a better system?

Well, Lost Coast uses some fancy new lighting system that wasn't in HL2, and it does run worse on my PC in the same resolution and all that, so it probably as good reason for net letting you in.

I know that wasn't helpful at all, but just letting you know why it'd let you run HL2 but not LC. ;)

If Lost Coast uses a lightling model not in HL2, maybe you need to upgrade your DirectX and graphics drivers.

HL2: Lost Coast actually uses HDR (High dynamic range) lightning which is a really new & advanced technology only avaliable on DirectX 9 cards.

* brian starts HL2: Lost Coast

=P

Its not just HDR -- lost coast runs on non-hdr hardware as well, it just disables hdr functionality. However, lost coast doesn't just showcase HDR, its a showcase for all the technologies they were working on for HL2 that never got included. So yes, it does take much better hardware than HL2 even if HDR is disabled.

It doesn't take amazing software to be able to run Half Life 2: Lost Coast.

Either way, it isn't really worth the download, you may aswell just buy Half-Life 2: Episode 1, it has the improved features of Lost Coast and better AI.

Lost Coast is just a tech demo.

I can run Half-Life 2: Lost Coast at 4x AA and Everything else on full with V-Sync (not antiscoptric filtering)

ATi Radeon 9600 Pro
1gig Ram
2.13GHz AMD Athlon CPU. (Single Core)

Sorry for getting offtopic, but OMG that screenshot looks like real!
If it only was in a bigger resolution, and it had some AA, it would be real!

Anti-aliasing

In digital signal processing, anti-aliasing is the technique of minimizing aliasing (jagged or blocky patterns) when representing a high-resolution signal at a lower resolution.

I never said i had played any games with amazing graphics :P You cant deny that the pic does look quite realistic.
Tbh i like games that look decently realistic and have really good gameplay. Gameplay >> Graphics.
Tho graphics need to be good looking, they arent a priority for me. It just shouldnt have any "loose ends" visually, so to say ;)

Ghost recon advanced warfare looks pretty fine, not the best screenshot but here it is on 1280x1024 maxed with Anisotropic x16.

http://k4o.info/x/graw.jpg

just a quick one i took so it doesn't show that much off tbh.

(just an example because someone seemed to think only hl2 HDR looked good which is far from the truth =p).

Also, go look for videos of Crysis.
