Laptop Programs by Hybrid on 08-12-2006 at 12:22 AM

I was just wondering, the programs that come with my laptop; Excel, Word, outlook, powerpoint, onenote. Why do I have to have a serial number? shoulden't it come free with my laptop?

OEM software shouldn't need a serial. Get on to who you bought the laptop off, if all else fails, get one of the net & then use a resider.

I've always found OEM software has serial numbers attached. All OEM means is that it was sold with a PC.

My OEM copy of XP has a serial anyway.

Part of getting OEM software is the implicit licence to use said software. If you need to reinstall it for whatever reason, then you have a valid licence key that is yours to use.

Well it was already installed into my laptop. I don't have a box or anything just a recovery disk.

So does mine, but when I re-installed it I didn't have to input it, but when I installed XP Pro, I did (the new one, that was). But anyway, we digress.

Using your recovery disc should return your computer to the state you got it in, including all your pre-installed programs.

I have the same problem with OneNote.  Probably best if you ask the people that you got your computer from to see if they have any advice with what to do about it.
