Is this Installation tweaked, or out of the box? by poilf on 09-04-2006 at 11:09 AM

Hi there,

this is the biggest installation off MyBB that I can find on the net.
Can someone tell me if there are changes made on the MyBB files or the DB structure to make the board more performant than the standard installation?

I'm asking because I manage a lot of phpBB2 Boards and I'm tired of waiting for phpBB3 and the pain-in-the-*** modding situation over here so I want to switch. I have a running MyBB installation, but only on small forums (you say boards in english, aren't you?) and someone in the community board from http://mybboard.com said that MyBB doesn't scale that good on big boards, so I'm afraid to screw up my big boards (>150k postings with only <300 users) at the switch...

Thanks in advance!
poilf from germany

yes the MyBB version used here is heavly modded. Though, some mods consist of bug fixes, most mods are changes to existing features or new features.

MyBB has been used here for years now without any problems on this massive forum...

WDZ, one of the forum admins and guy who did almost all the mods, can probably help you more.

(though, he wont give you his mods)

This is a very very very old version of MyBB as well (RC2) and is currently facing a major update. The mods used are not as MyBB plugins, but hard coded into the files themselves.

If you are planning to convert your PHPBB board over to MyBB you are best off searching for a converter, although I don't think there are any around :(

The new version of mybb that came out just 2 days ago, 1.2, has a lot of great forums, and is suited for big forums. I suggest you install a(nother) test board and check it out. The plugins for it are not all out yet but there are a lot of useful plugins within a month usually.

Hi, thanks for the fast answer.

Finding a conversion tool, is not a problem. Mods are also not important, because MyBB brings everything that I need (mainly sub-boards, phpbb2 has a very spectacular mod for this but on every update I have to reinstall it what totally sucks).

The question is if a standard MyBB Installation is able to manage a Board with a few hundredthousand posts and a few hundred users without any speed-up hacks (and I ask it here, because this is a Board that is big enough to have experience with this problem).

The lead developer of MyBB is an admin on these forums, so you'll notice that many of the mods developed for these forums were added as features to MyBB 1.2. But yes, this forum is heavily modified.

The reputation system for example. 1.2's system is almost exactly the same as here.
