windows sloooow as hell! by Rubber Stamp on 09-06-2006 at 04:47 PM

my windows is running very very slow, the mouse is like, moving in steps. i hope you get what i mean. i checked the processes and no unknown thing is running. i have a 2.6 Ghz processor and 1 GB RAM. i think this might be a hardware problem, cos one of my HD is also not being detected. i had formatted the whole computer last week, so thats not the problem either. please help.
thanks

have you got all the cables fitted properly, and hae you tried differnt` cables?

also, have you installed the drivers for your graphics?

Well since I've started adding more scripts to plus Istarted having my mose doing the same some times and the computer also get slow some times. I have 1 Gb ram and when my computer does that it says in the task manager that memory is being 100% used and it's almost always 90% for WLM or for explorer.exe during those periods of "slwoness".

yeah i think i have all my cables fitted properly, i had checked them. but i still think its a harware problem, since i recently reinstalled windows and i dont have many programs installed, only essential software!

No point in ending explorer too although is not system classiffied. It will restart automaticly, so in the event that what is robbing you of your ram is explorer then you try to reinstall windows.

<smartass mode>
How do you know hell is slow??
</smartass mode>

for your problem, sorry, I can't think of anything that's not been said already...

but if you think it has something to do with the hdd which is not detected, unplug it and see if it helps

If you can, try something along the lines of Knoppix (a live-linux cd), this will let you see if it's a hardware or simply Windows (driver) problem.

actually, i think the hdd problem and this problem is related. the hdd is detected once when i unplug and plug it again, but it goes off again if i restart.

that windows for u. one day it works one year it doesn't try a ram defragmenter like ram booster, and is it slow as soon as u start it up?
cos it may be a defictive hard drive it might not be writing fast enough

Yea the hdd could cause the problem. When you unplug it does the computer work better?

Maybe you need a new IDE/ATA cable for you HDD. Could be the problem or maybe your HDD is damaged in some way, how old is your HDD?

RE: windows sloooow as hell! by Rubber Stamp on 09-08-2006 at 09:54 AM

the hdd is a year old.

RE: windows sloooow as hell! by Jarrod on 09-08-2006 at 10:04 AM

that's not old but maybe it was faulty?

RE: windows sloooow as hell! by Rubber Stamp on 09-09-2006 at 12:41 PM

it actually worked pretty well till two weeks back. i tried removing the old hdd and then using the computer, but it didnt make any difference. its still very very slow when running programs.

Have you tried checking your memmory? I know there isn't any direct link but there is alwys coincidence.

RE: windows sloooow as hell! by Rubber Stamp on 09-10-2006 at 07:31 AM

anyway, i think the problems fixed, at least for now. the hard disk is being detected and windows is running fine. i just removed all the wires and plugged them again!
