When I type my email into the email address box....it takes a long time to show up....but when I type my password in the password box. It shows up instantly. Once It finally displays I click sign in.....then it shows that error above

I have googled this error and tried fixes....none worked. Restarted, checked Server Status and seems ok (but how would the server error affect the lag from typing my email to Windows Live Messenger displaying it?)

Windows Live Messenger 8.1.0066 (Beta)

I know this is buggy, but I barely had any crashes....(excluding on boot most of the time)...So I am sticking with it.

This only started this morning, woke up and I couldn't sign in.

Any ideas?

I have checked google for pages like

http://www.askmarvin.ca/forums/index.php?showtopic=5140

But then again that is for 7.5 (but it does show that person did have the slow typing problem)

This is one of those issues I can't solve.

Thanks,
SonicSam

I do not have a antivirus scanner enabled. Nor installed for that matter, firewall disabled...can't think of any other things to do.

SonicSam, someone on #msgplus has got the same problem, and reinstalling WLM didn't work.

Is that all you did to fix it?

Had the same problem, also closed down MSN Explorer, acted as though connection was lost. The problem started as soon as i tried to upgrade from Member Email. The easist way to resolve the issue for me personally was a sytem restore. Not a reformat. Fairly easy cause windows creats one every now and then.
Still having trouble with messenger live stability though. Closes when it feels like.
           All the best.
                      Cos.

Happy Dad
Hi All

I went to this website...

http://msn-errors.blogspot.com/2006/11/i-cannot-s...msn-messenger.html

And fixed the problem, please read on...

    ************************************************

I had two problems on my daughters PC today.

1) Unable to sign into Windows Live Messenger due to error code 8004888d.

2) Windows Automatic Updates could not access website to do new update downloads. My daugters PC is running Windows XP Service pack 2.

RESOLUTION -

Go to a DOS prompt and type in the following OR go to Start -> Run and then copy and paste each line below hitting after each one.

regsvr32 Msxml3.dll /s

regsvr32 Dssenh.dll /s
regsvr32 Gpkcsp.dll /s
regsvr32 Slbcsp.dll /s
regsvr32 Sccbase.dll /s
regsvr32 Softpub.dll /s
regsvr32 Wintrust.dll /s
regsvr32 Initpki.dll /s
regsvr32 Rsaenh.dll /s
regsvr32 Mssip32.dll /s
regsvr32 Cryptdlg.dll /s

Afterwards I rebooted the PC. I knew the PC was fixed because Live Messenger automatically kicked in first time around. Plus, Windows Automatic Updates is now also working...

My daughter is now very happy, and back able to chat to her friends.

Just though I'd say that I had the same error - 8004888d, when I typed in the username it would take a while to show up and wouldn't sign in at all. Reinstalling and System Restore and loads of other things I tried didn't help, however Happy dad's solution worked and fixed it right up! Just saying in case someones having the same kind of problem :P. Thanks a lot! :D
