Let's see this battle go ahead, poll to make it easier.

Option 1:

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+
Motherboard: Abit Fatal1ty AN9 32X (Socket AM2) PCI-Express DDR2

Option 2:

CPU: Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz
Motherboard: Abit AW9D-MAX Intel 975X (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2

Both options will have:

RAM: Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C4 TwinX (2x1GB)
Case: Thermaltake VA8000BWS Armour Super Tower - Black
HDD: Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 11 500GB 6H500F0 SATA-II 16MB Cache
Video: XFX GeForce 7950 GX2 1024mb
Both will be given an excessively nice cpu cooler so i can overclock like the whore i always have been

Already have 2x BenQ 19" FP91G+ TFT Monitors and 2x 200gb Maxtor diamondmax 10 IDE drives and a SoundBlaster X-Fi Xtreme Music.

Let the battle commence =p

edit: forgot to mention, i've always preferred AMD over Intel, but everyone at work has been more and more convincing to jump onto the core 2 duo bandwagon with the 6600 due to how nicely it can overclock.

The AMD system, simply because, in my opinion, AMD processors are better than Intel.

You should get one of the limited-edition OEM processors that you can buy from AMD, they're highly overclockable too, and the heatsink/fans for them around £10 max.

Like i said, heatsink i'll be using will be a decent one, not a cheap one. I've always liked amd but the benchmarks do say alot, considering the E6600 is onpar with the FX62 which is almost £600 says a fair bit.

Intel, the processors peform better on benchmark tests than AMD. Also, it is now a lot simpler to overclock Intel chips than it used to be, and since they produce a lot less heat than AMD processors do, it should be easier to overclock.
