Messanger + webcam resolutions by tomcat_ on 09-21-2006 at 06:49 PM

I have been always using msn and lately live messanger...but always for chat.

Lately i have decided to buy for myself a webcamera and one for my girlfriend.

I have bought a quickcam connect from logitech for my girlfriend and remotely installed it on her pc. The camera has native 640x480 resolution. However, although it's working probably i'm getting something more than 1fps when i'm lucky or less most of the times.

Her connection is 2.2mb/256k, mine is only 128kb/64kb. I do realise that i have a slow connection and that is the bottleneck so i decided to reduce the resolution of her camera to 320x.....

However, there is nothing within the drivers or quickcam software that i can do that, what is more important there is nothing in live messanger that allows me to do so.

Any ideas how i can reduce resolution in messanger in order to gain fps?

How is messanger handling the different resolution or the webcams?

Thanks

There isn't much you can do I'm afraid, the resolution of it will always be the same, changing the size of it in the IM Window doesn't change the resolution of it, it only changes the viewing size. It's just one of those things that you'll have to live with I'm afraid.

so any idea what is the resolution that live messanger or msn is using? is it the resolution of the webcam...or a fixed resolution my msn?

any good programs for video and chat (not sound) that u can adjust resolution and hence fps?
