You must have NFTS system files in order to support sharing folders, have you looked at it?

You formatted your computer without even searching Google?

quote:
Sharing Folder are only supported on NTFS partitions

then you probably have ntfs

(ntfs is the system by which the disk handles files. sharing folders dont support fat which is another type, usually found on mahicnes with win 98 or less)

i'm probably wrong somewhere...

RE: Sharing folders by Chris4 on 09-25-2006 at 07:55 PM

If you go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Storage > Disk Management(Local)

The partition is probely FAT32.

It's not worth the effort to just make Sharing Folders work :S

only format if you just got the laptop and you have an xp cd, because the recovery cds probably wont work (also you can delete the recovery partition if you are an advanced user and gain a few extra gigs of space [Image: msn_wink.gif])

ok thanks i am on fat32why that when i run a brand new laptop 3 weeks old

So could i get sharing folders to work ? with a lot of work
lol

RE: Sharing folders by DarkMe on 09-25-2006 at 08:06 PM

Yeh, but youll have to erase the partition or format your hd
i dunno :s

RE: Sharing folders by Ezra on 09-25-2006 at 08:11 PM

you can run the fat2ntfs program to upgrade your fat partition to ntfs

EDIT: The program is called convert.exe

EDIT2: However that will not work when you try to convert your windows partition, you have to boot with a boot floppy and convert it from there, that wat windows won't be started yet and can't use the drive. After that windows should start fine and you have ntfs :)

The prob it a brand new lappy and it only comes with a recovery disk would this affect the running of that disk if i never to format again as the disk contains all my drivers
