Desktop Contact problem by bud-cam on 09-25-2006 at 11:09 PM

Hi there, I've had an issue with the desktop contacts that started some time around the release of windows live and Messenger PLus! Live.

I have a friend with 2 contacts on my desktop, one for each of his computers.
They both use different email and Custom Names but are very similar.
His actual NickNames are completely different.
Contact 1:  myfriend@hotmail.com    CustomName:  myfriend-U
Contact 2:  myfriend1@hotmail.com    CustomName:  myfriend-D

The problem is that every time I start my computer these two contact on the desktop resize to the same size and posistion(one on top of the other) and also the Custom Names become the same(ie: myfriend-U). When I highlight each contact they each display the proper email address. I have three computers with the same problem on all three.
I am using Windows XP-SP2, Messenger Plus! Live: 4.01.0.240 and Windows Live: 8.0.0812.00 on all the computers.

I am having a very similar problem and was just about to post a thread about it..
my contact has a similar email address with 2 accounts each with just a different number on the end. I only want one of his accounts on the desktop. but i found that after a day or so the other one would be mysterily over the top of it also. I would go into the desktop contacts setup and they would both be ticked.
I unticked both and left it for a while cos i was busy but only the other day i tried to add him back up and now after a few hours it is gone completely instead of bringing the other one up also. so now i have a gap in between my desktop contacts where he is supposed to be..

Windows XP-SP2, Msg Plus! Live 4.01.0.240, Live Messenger 8.0.0792.00

Hopefully someone can help us both out

I just discovered  also have this problem.

I have two seperate contacts, each with very similar email adresses (their first six letters are the same) and I have set just one of them as a desktop contact. However, whenever I sign in, they are both on the desktop, one above the other.

That may be the key to the bug...

That's what I suspected, and the two preceding posters' problems seem to confirm this.

Please send me an email to mplus@patchou.com with the exact email adresses of the contacts that have this problem. I need to be sure it's fixed properly. Thanks.

Just wondering if this issue was ever resolved. I'm using v 4.23.0.276.  I share a Media Center PC with my wife.  I frequently remain logged on to Messenger with my status set to Away.  When she uses the PC she switches users and logs on to her account. When I return to my log-in, I find that all of my contacts on the desktop are always in the upper left-hand corner of the screen on top of eachother and I have to drag them back to their original positions.  It doesn't seem to matter if I lock their positions or not but I haven't tried this since the most recent upgrade, to be honest, since it didn't help in the past.  Any solutions?
