SoundPack DB Design - Opinions Wanted by Dempsey on 09-27-2006 at 10:14 AM

It's only been a few months since the last redesign, but I'm still being told that the SoundPack DB looks messy and isn't very easy to navigate around.  I'm thinking about changing it again to make it easier for users to navigate and quickly find what they want.

There is the current design, which is

and the new design which Eljay started to work on, which can be found at

.

What are your opinions on the two designs?  Which do you prefer?  Good/Bad points on each?  How would you improve?   Or would you recommend a totally new design?  Any opinions appreciated :)

Current Design:
- You use a lot of different colors for links all over the place, which makes it hard to figure out what is a link without a mouseover.
- Don't really like the grey color on the links, harder to read than the rest of the colors.
- The "Download Now" may be a bit more noticable. Especially when there are a lot of sounds in a pack, the download link gets lost on the bottom of the page.

New Design:
- Don't like the orange on yellow.
- Top navigation could be a bit more noticeable. A bit bigger fontsize + add icons to it?

You say you're trying to make it easier to navigate, but the new design is only one page which makes it impossible to get a good feeling how it navigates. Need a full working new design to make a choice :).

I think bigger text would be better aswell. Not sure about icons, sometimes just text can be fine.

I would say, for now, i still prefer the old/current one. But this may just be because of the colours of the new one. :P

IMO the new one is a little too plane and boring.  It needssome life, but not too much or it just is too much for people to lookat.  I think although a minimalistic approach is a good ideayou need to make you header and other bars up the top bigger and howabout a really pale light blue rather than white?  Also Idon't like the orange on yellow either.

Simple is the key, easy navigation will keep people happy. May be make it look like the Plus! Live website at little more? :P

I think light and easy is the way to go. Needs an easy way to get around and the important links such as download need to be more noticeable.
