http://csszengarden.com/

One of my teachers showed this site as a demo to the power of CSS yesterday, and I was rather amazed to what a CSS can do to a page, and how different it can be. As I have never really went into page design this is new to me, and a bunch of people here probably already know all of this...8-)

anyways, the page without any CSS is http://csszengarden.com/?cssfile=null. 972 CSS designs are available, but most are external so may be broken.

What I was amazed by is basically the whole site layout is controlled by CSS.

But,

quote:
This xhtml document is marked up to provide the designer with the maximum possible flexibility.
There are more classes and extraneous tags than needed, and in a real world situation, it's more
likely that it would be much leaner.

However, I think we can all agree that even given that, we're still better off than if this had been
built with tables.

Of the designs that I looked at, my favs are
http://csszengarden.com/?cssfile=182/182.css
http://csszengarden.com/?cssfile=http://agora.ula...v1/kill-billv1.css

can anyone find some other cool ones?

i always did have a soft spot for a couple of the designs... i agree.. it is pretty amazing what can be done, but not so when you actually think that css can be used to control the majority of the design; i'm used to css so i rarely appreciate how much i depend on it for my designs :P

the point is, you can use CSS to insert images?

RE: Zen Garden by ayjay on 10-03-2006 at 07:04 PM

Yeah but the idea is kinda to change the page design using CSS alone, as apposed to saving the page title, introduction etc or whatever into an image and inserting it :P
