Wireless or wired? by Kenji on 10-03-2006 at 03:55 PM

What do you use/prefer?

I have wireless that is unsecured.

reason is we have 6 comps and 4 laptops, and we let our customers use our wireless in the daytime..

I have a wireless connectiondsl,,,, unsecured and im too lazy to put a wep on it.

RE: Wireless or wired? by WDZ on 10-03-2006 at 04:10 PM

I use both wireless and wired in my home. The wireless is secured with WPA-PSK and a very long passphrase. :p

RE: Wireless or wired? by Menthix on 10-03-2006 at 04:21 PM

I wave my wired connection to my main PC because it's just way easier and cheaper to hook up a cable to that, it's not like you move a normal PC around anyway.

Used to have wireless for my laptop, secured by WPA + MAC filter + SSID hidden. Gave the accesspoint away to a friend tough. New accesspoint is already floating around in my room somewhere, but haven't set it up yet.

 ROFL

Oh and i use wireless, i prefer it because it is easier when you have a lot of devices attached.
RE: Wireless or wired? by user27089 on 10-03-2006 at 06:09 PM

I use wired broadband, it's just easier etc.

I'm getting wireless when I move house though, and I'm detached right on the end of a row so there's no way anybody could possibly steal my connection :).

RE: Wireless or wired? by Shondoit on 10-03-2006 at 06:11 PM

Make the poll multiple selections (y)

I have wired trough downstairs computer as proxy
And when that computer is turned of I can't access the internet so I use our neighbours unsecured wireless
(It's a bit suspicious when I go downstairs and turn the comp on when I'm supposed to be in bed :P )

RE: Wireless or wired? by Ezra on 10-03-2006 at 06:12 PM

I have both.

I used to have a normal router to I made a normal wired network with 2 computers and a printer on it. But now I replaced the router with a router/accespoint combo so I can use WIFI enabled devices too.

And it's secured with a WEP key, I used to have WPA but my Nintendo DS doesn't support WPA so I went back to WEP.

I can stay up til 23:30, but most of the times I stay up til 01:00
sometimes even til 03:00 but don't tell my mom :-# :P

2 weeks though, then I'm 18, then I can stay up til I go to bed, (d'oh) :D (18, yeah!!)
RE: Wireless or wired? by Plik on 10-03-2006 at 07:35 PM

I have wired and secured wireless at home. And then i use the unsecured wireless network where i live while im living in falmouth, although there is one other network i could use, but the newbs havn't set up their internet connection ¬.¬

RE: Wireless or wired? by Dr4g0n on 10-03-2006 at 07:37 PM

I personally use a unsecured wireless connection. My dad's pc uses wired however, as he's close to the router.

If i'm well over my bandwidth however, I can leech next doors wireless connection (H)

RE: Wireless or wired? by brian on 10-03-2006 at 09:22 PM

Wired/Wireless: Wired for computers near the router which aren't moving anytime soon (PCs) and secure wireless for laptop.

RE: Wireless or wired? by markee on 10-03-2006 at 09:33 PM

Currently have a wired network, though hopefully in the next week or two we'll have a secure wireless one as well.  I can't wait until the day when I'm not limited to my blue ethernet cable.

RE: Wireless or wired? by hmaster on 10-03-2006 at 09:49 PM

Wired & Wireless: Wired for the main computer and secure wireless (WEP key) for the psp and laptop.

Secure wireless.

RE: Wireless or wired? by Underlord on 10-04-2006 at 12:04 AM

I have very secure wireless, wired and ethernet over power.

RE: Wireless or wired? by lizard.boy on 10-04-2006 at 01:16 AM

I have 4 pc's wired, with ethernet run across 3 floors through cold air returns and closets, as well as my wired server.
We have wireless, however, for my mom's laptop, which i beleive is secured by WEP, simply because her wireless card is too old to support WPA-PSK or WPA.
I'm thinking of convinicng my dad to convert to gigabit as well, for speed an added boost since we rely on our network quite heavily.

RE: Wireless or wired? by lrac522 on 10-04-2006 at 01:50 AM

I am so wired.

RE: Wireless or wired? by rav0 on 10-04-2006 at 05:45 AM

I connect my computer to my gateway by fast ethernet (wired). I also have secure Wifi LAN, but it doesn't get used. The other computer gets no network.

RE: Wireless or wired? by Lourix on 10-04-2006 at 05:50 AM

I don't know what connection I have :(

RE: Wireless or wired? by wolfeboy100 on 10-04-2006 at 06:31 PM

i have a secure wireless, but no one even lives close enough to me steal my connection

RE: Wireless or wired? by Vilkku on 10-04-2006 at 06:35 PM

I use a wired connection for my desktops and wireless for the laptop, the wireless one is unsecured because there isn't even one living close enough to be able to leech it.

RE: Wireless or wired? by Thor on 10-04-2006 at 06:54 PM

Wired connection is the main system in our house, no laptops, so.... :/

RE: Wireless or wired? by rav0 on 10-05-2006 at 02:37 AM

For the people whose wireless won't be able to be leeched because there is nobody nearby; do you live out in whoopwhoop, or do you have really bad reception? My wireless works all around my place and my neighbours with stock antenna on the AP and stock radios/antennas (internal) on the clients.

If you're talking about encryption it's still better policy to turn it on.
