I've never used a Mac, or Linux, but I want to learn. I'm buying a Mac laptop from the high school here for $100 (A bit much, but it goes to helping pay for new computers for the tech class). All I really know about it (since I've never used a Mac) is that it's currently running OS 9.1 RE: Will Linux work on a Mac? by NiteMare on 10-06-2006 at 06:38 AM OS X won't even run properly on a mac....let alone linux RE: Will Linux work on a Mac? by surfichris on 10-06-2006 at 08:04 AM
quote:Whatever. Idiot. Take your bullshit lies/rubbish elsewhere. If you don't have anything worthy to say DON'T SAY IT AT ALL. quote:Okay, because it is running OS 9.1 then it'll be a PowerPC based processor. First of all, because it is running an older version of Mac OS (before Mac OS X was introduced - v10) you'll want to check if it is actually capable (specifications) of running OS X. You'll need a G3 processor at least. Full requirements can be found at: http://www.apple.com/macosx/upgrade/requirements.html Now - in regards to Linux you can't use standard x86 builds because they're for Intel processors. You need the ppc builds which are for PowerPC processors. Luckily Ubuntu Linux has these: http://ubuntu-releases.cs.umn.edu//6.06/ What you're looking for is "Mac (PowerPC) desktop CD" and once again it requires a G3 or greater processor. Hope this helps. quote: Uh what do you think OS X does run on then? ![]() If its currently using Mac OS 9.1, it's unlikely it will able to run OS X. But you will be able to run PowerPC Linux on, eg PenguinPPC RE: RE: Will Linux work on a Mac? by ~INVASION~ on 10-06-2006 at 08:07 AM
quote:sorry but i have to aggree, osx runs f***ing amazing. Way better then windows. (wish i could get a nice g5 intel duo core imac like i ahve at school! ![]() RE: Will Linux work on a Mac? by Woraug on 10-19-2006 at 02:31 AM
I was finally able to pick up the laptop. Here's the specs on it: RE: Will Linux work on a Mac? by lizard.boy on 10-19-2006 at 02:52 AM
Ah, it's a good thing that money is going to a good cause, since that machine seems a bit on the shoddy side. quote:mmm.. Juicy flame bait. Seriously, that was a stupid thing to say, just because you don't like mac's that doesn't mean they don't have a decent product. RE: Will Linux work on a Mac? by NiteMare on 10-19-2006 at 03:19 AM
