Free Orange broadband. :cheesy:


trying to get dad to upgrade but he dont want to pay :sad:

However, the DL is not really 1MBit..
While I was supposed to download with ~128 kb/s, i hardly download with 90kb/s! :(
Stupid isp... :(
The upload speed seems to be fine though.

I have BT Total "up to 8mb" but I live quite far from the exchange so I get
5,504kbps up (Maximum application speed attained 472kb/s)
448kbps down (Maximum application speed attained 42kb/s)

Notice that some people will post in kbits/s which is the speed reported by your ISP to make it look faster, this number is 8 times more than the kilobytes/s speed reported by most applications.

most off the time it is even 10 times higher then the real speed in kB...

That's in practise. In reality, it's done because 1 byte = 8 bits. Seeing as they both begin with a B it's confusing when they get abbrieviated. I'm sure you're supposed to capitalise one and not the other, but I'm not sure which.

The extra speed "loss" is usually caused by latency (via distance or slow packet-acknowledgement) or just slow servers.

Great then i guess i got 2094kbps download and 380 upload...  EDIT:I tried it in IE, and i got a much slower speed

i have 5mbit down and 800kbit up, but its about as reliable as a pidgen couriour in the 21st century, so i may be changing isps.
Currently i'm on rogers cable, but i really don't have speed issues (since its a shared pipe) just connectivity issues.

That test server in Amsterdam is slow :S, I get better speeds from Australia :P

I'm on a 8/1 Mbits line. I might upgrade to 20/2 for 10 euro's more, but i'm not sure if my router can reach those speeds :P

Im on 512kbit down 128kbit up. Damm slow australian broadband. but it is a 40 gig limit with just capped speeds after that, which is alright. But seeing all your speeds make me very jealous
