Little vista problem by Exca on 10-18-2006 at 11:09 AM

Hello, i installed vista beta 2 yesterday. I did it on a partition to let it work aside XP. Now on the boot it says: 'Older version of windows' and below that 'Microsoft windows' which is Vista and is set standard. How do i edit the order and the names? And how do i edit the 25sec. wait...

RE: Little vista problem by ShawnZ on 10-18-2006 at 12:37 PM

start > run > msconfig > boot (in vista, not xp)

RE: Little vista problem by Exca on 10-18-2006 at 12:43 PM

doesnt work, in vista there is only 1 operating system in the msconfig>boot window viewed

try:
win-key+pause -> advanced (the tab on the bottom right) ->
then the bottom options button
there you can edit the boot file...
don't know if you have to do it under xp or vista...

RE: Little vista problem by Exca on 10-18-2006 at 01:19 PM

RE: Little vista problem by foaly on 10-18-2006 at 01:32 PM

Ok the image is in dutch... but it should be quite the same...
you don't have the edit button that is in the picture?

RE: Little vista problem by Exca on 10-18-2006 at 01:35 PM

Anyway
I'll look at your screenshot in a minute; here is mine:

Edit: i guess i'll hve to edit it in XP right...

RE: Little vista problem by Exca on 10-18-2006 at 02:14 PM

Okay, i went to XP and edited those settings, but there was just 'windows xp' in the name, and only 1 OS. 2 things that don't fit in other words. But there was this: "use bcdedit.exe for Vista boot options". I remember that Vista takes over the boot manager from Windows XP, so I started up the bcdedit.exe in DOS. There i do have the 2 operating systems listed with their names as the bootup displays it. But how do i edit that then :p

RE: Little vista problem by foaly on 10-18-2006 at 02:14 PM

:)

try
win-key +r -> c:\boot.ini
see if that shows your boot file...

Do you have an http or ftp link in which it can be obtained? The microsoft download link seems to have been pulled

The best solution I have found to booting problems is a wonderful little program called VistaBootPRO. It is a free downoad (sorry I don't have a link) and gives a nice GUI. It can also be installed in either of you OS's.

Hope this helps

Robert
