How to make a DVD movie come into a CD??? by WaqasTariq on 10-19-2006 at 04:26 PM

Hello,

First of all thanks people for helping me diffrenciate between DVD+R and DVD-R, I have realised it wont make a big diffrence in my life if I chose DVD+R over DVD-R or vice-versa, anyways.

Now here is something I coudnt figure out, or should I say cant do...

I have a movie on DVD, now what I want is to convert/compress/'do anything' to make it small enough to come on a CD+R (750MB *MAX*), so I can play it on my VCD player :P

Is it possible??? if yes then what do I need to do???

DVD2SVCD will convert a DVD to an SVCD.  You'll only get the main movie, and it will be playable on computers, and DVD players that support SVCDs.  Here's a guide with links to the software and such:

i dont think u can compress it to less than 750 mb. i think u can use a software to convert to vcd and then put it in more than one cds.

Most movies will compress to 700MB as an SVCD with OK quality.  Movies will compress excellently to Xvids of 700MB, but most DVD players won't play Xvids.

It's definitely possible using KVCD [wikipedia]. I've done it before, and the format is quite popular with movie pirates. :p However, your DVD player might not support KVCD, especially if it's an older one.

Using the standard template, you can fit about 120 minutes of video on a CD.

An 80min CD can hold up to 800 MB of VCD video...

How come that I can fit 740 MB on a 74 min CD or 800 MB on a 80 min CD?
A VCD,XVCD,XSVCD or SVCD are burned in mode 2 form 2 instead of ordinary data mode where you fit 650 MB on a 74 min CD. The mode2 form2 has less error correction than data mode.
