Strange IE7 Problem by rob_botch on 10-24-2006 at 11:26 AM

I have been running the beta versions of IE7 for a while now, but have only just upgraded to the "real" version. However, I have been having some strange problems.

Firstly, whenever I open IE, instead of my home page appearing, the website "http://runonce.msn.com/runonce2.aspx" with title "Customize your settings" opens EVERY TIME (although it appears to be a blank blue page)! But if I have more than one homepage, the second, third etc. pages appear in other tabs. It seems to ignore my first homepage.

Also, but more minor and possible related, whenever I open a new tab, the "Welcome to tabs" page is displayed. Each time I click "Don't show this again", and each time I am ignored!

I have not had these problems before with the supposedly more error-prone betas. Does anyone know what might be the problem?

Thanks

Robert

You could try doing a fresh install of IE, go back to the beta or you could use firefox :)

Does it work fine when you put a junk webpage in front of the one you want 1st?

Do you just navigate away from the 'Customize Settings' page, or actually gothrough it and do what it says? If the former, try the latter.

Thanks for the help. I have managed now to reinstall it. The main problem was that, because I had the beta installed, the uninstaller deleted normaliz.dll and iertutil.dll. Having found and replaced those to get explorer.exe working, the installer worked perfectly.

True, but links from Micro$oft programs still tend to open in IE.

Thanks
