It's a PG i believe

Some people could be scared of the monsters in it but if i've noticed anything children aren't scared and love it yet adults don't want their kids seeing the monsters they think that it's unsuitable :S

??????? Unless it is a (lame life action) remake, that movie has been around since 1993
RE: OMG TNBC 3D IS AWESOME!!!! by aNILEator on 11-01-2006 at 05:48 PM

It's been remastered in 3D cookie (eg it jumps out at you)

They've taken the original movie footage and cut out every frame and re-layered it.

It's sooo much better in 3D than in 2D, much more detail and interaction, so if you get the chance go see it I highly suggest you do :)

RE: OMG TNBC 3D IS AWESOME!!!! by CookieRevised on 11-02-2006 at 01:53 AM

crap.....

The reason why the movie is so good, is especially because how it was made. Remastering it with 3D overlays is raping the whole stop-motion process and quality of the movie....

Maybe I go see it (when it is released here) just to see the effect, but I sure find this "crap" and almost "insulting" to the movie and its makers...

--------------

EDIT: I did some looking around and it seems the movie has been made into a 3D but with those special glasses... This is different than what I thought it was from what you've said; I thought you said the movie was 'remade' with CGI and stuff layered over the puppet motion (eg: added shadows and stuff) to let it look more 3D...

What has been done is processing the movie so the animation is 3D when you look thru special glasses (eg: like the Shrek movie). This is a releave... and I take my words back.... However, I still think the original is, well... original, and adding anything to it is breaking its "charme" and "magic"...

I seriously hope they didn't alter anything more (like adding shadows and all)... that is maybe untill I have seen it... maybe... I have my reservations...

I think you shouldn't thinker with cult movies like that, how awesome it maybe may look.... (better make a sequal in 3D then.... oh well...)

RE: OMG TNBC 3D IS AWESOME!!!! by aNILEator on 11-02-2006 at 02:06 AM

As the original animators and tim burton himself explains, this is actually how the movie was made, what you saw on set during production, and it shows all the detail in the sets and character models, there has been no CG effects what so ever and because its in Real D rather than Imax 3D quality is alot better and there is minimal ghosting (if any at all)

I don't see how this is insulting or crap myself as it is infact enhancing the footage, I do suggest you see it when it is released (if there are any Real-D projection cinemas near you) just to see what I mean. It is still the same film millions know and love so no loss there.

I was skeptical at first too but became more and more interested and it was much better than anyone had anticipated, it's a shame the interview i was in didn't interview people afterwards also because everyone that i talked to had the largest grins on their faces ever :D

as for breaking charm and magic it certainly doesn't, it at least multiplies it by 10 :D

If you have the high quality superbit version on dvd (or have seen it in the theater) you see those details too though.

The worst song that has been remade is she wants revenge - kidnap the sandy claws.

On youtube you'll find the new songs mixed into the original footage

Cookie please don't criticise anything before you've seen it, watching the videos on youtube it actually looks amazing and I wish I went.

I'm contemplating going to Manchester to watch it, that's how much I'm excited about it.

i went and saw it for halloween, and i enjoyed it more than i did when it wasnt 3d. i think it was because i felt like i was actually in the movie. idk but it was really good i enjoyed it more.

RE: OMG TNBC 3D IS AWESOME!!!! by aNILEator on 11-03-2006 at 02:15 PM

exactly my opinion i felt like an ant on the set during filming :P

RE: OMG TNBC 3D IS AWESOME!!!! by Hybrid on 11-04-2006 at 03:46 PM

It looks like a good movie and I look forward to watching it, but I have to agree with Cookie, With people like Fall Out Boy and Marlyn Manson and the way they approached it I think it did lose a little bit of it's charm.

RE: OMG TNBC 3D IS AWESOME!!!! by aNILEator on 11-04-2006 at 04:05 PM

forget about the cover and demo songs they aren't in the film at all, it still has the classics throughout

I'm not critcizing that it wouldn't look good though. In fact, It may _look_ better.

But I'm criticizing the fact that the original movie, and especially if you know how it was made and in what time period it was made, probably has more 'magic' than the current one, just because they had to do it in a certain concept, in a certain way, using only tools which they had and which they agreed upon on using.

Looking at the trailers only, I can already see that CGI stuff is indeed added (so it isn't just making it 3d), something which I can't agree upon, eventhough it does _look_ more modern/awesome.

eg: a 3D CGI Wallace & Gromit may look awesome, yet I will loose the 'magic' touch it has in the original stop-motion series. To put it in another way: CGI is a nice tool, but can (I say 'can', not 'will') make movie people 'lazy'... It looses the human touch/it's like saying the craftsmen who made the movie with their bare hands didn't do a proper job so to speak...

Another such movie is The Dark Crystal. Using CGI to even 'enhance'  such a movie would turn Jim Hanson around in his grave as a matter of speeking. It is something else if a sequal or prequel (aka a new movie) is being made using new modern technics though...

Another good example are the classic Startrek movies. They are made in a time period when modern CGI wasn't available. Yet they often have far more 'magic' in them than the modern variants.

You can even compare it to classic PC games, where the originals were sometimes far better, spoke more to the imagination than their modern remakes.

Anyways, hard to explain. Though I'm sure it will _look_ amazing. As for the rest, I can indeed only judge when I actually have seen/experienced it, but I have my reservations...
RE: OMG TNBC 3D IS AWESOME!!!! by aNILEator on 11-05-2006 at 05:14 PM

what CGI in TNBC are you talking about mate and what trailer?

The original Dark Crystal had CGI elements inside aswell as hand-drawn (as well as labyrinth also) :S

And there is a sequel to dark crystal in the works which is using puppets, cgi and hand-drawn elements

All i can say is don't go into the cinema thinking this is going to be shit, I'm not going to like this at all. Go in with a completely open mind and be amazed :D

Neither The Dark Crystal as The Labyrinth haven't got any CGI elements. All effects are "pre-CGI"...

PS: CGI are computer generated stuff, blue screen, matting and such are not CGI.

yep, I know... (called "Power of The Dark Crystal"). Lots of controversy around it also (as Jim Henson didn't wanted a sequel).
