Windows Live Messenger 8.1 is a beta and there have been many reports of it not working very well on Vista at all, even though its meant to be compatible, i've also heard reports that 8.0 works better on Vista, but these are all off of reports i have read, not personal experience. ;)

I tried it on vista the other day, it was crashing all the time, i just went back to 8.0.

i'll stick to version 8.0 till there is a solution.

I say it again and nobody is listening. Your all to fast getting all this new stuff. I wait till vista comes out half januari and then i will have no problems.

Because i have patience. Something you have to learn i guess.

Windows Live Messenger 8.1 is currently in development to be made Windows Vista compatible. Although some issues have been successfully tackled, others have arised. Hopefully by the finished stage, Vista compatibility should be complete :)

Try disabling DEP in Vista - google for instructions. This might work.

RE: Windows Vista & WLM 8.1.01 beta ???!! by ins4ne on 11-18-2006 at 11:26 PM

Disable DEP in Vista:

1. Click Start
2. Click All Programs
3. Click Accessories
4. Right Click on Command Prompt
5. Left click on Run as Administrator
6. Click the Allow button if it asks you for permission
7. Type or copy and paste this into the command prompt window:

code:
bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff

8. Hit enter and you should see the confirmation: Operation Completed Successfully
9. Reboot and DEP should be off.
