This could be fun and informative, just download this free program to calculate pi (windows based only).

ftp://pi.super-computing.org/windows/super_pi.zip

Then run the program to measure the time it takes to calculate pi to 2 million digits. Do it both while plugged in and under battery power and post your results along with the notebook model,CPU type & speed, amount of memory and hard drive size & RPM. If we can get 20-30 results(hopefully more) to be statistically significant I'll compile and post the results here in a week or so.

I'm not on a laptop but on a normal PC (specifications in signature).  It took me 1m 13s (Not sure if my processor was on full-load mode because the Core 2 Duo lowers it's clock speed when it doesn't have a lot of load on it.)

i have a 3.06 ghz laptop with 512 mb ram and a 80 gig 5600 rpm hdd
edit:

Same here.

Desktop Computer:
Intel Core 2 6400 @ 2.13 Ghz
1024MB (1GB) of RAM

Also, how would the results differ by having the battery in or not :s
RE: measure your notebook speed (might work on normal pcs) by Voldemort on 11-25-2006 at 07:24 PM

because the processor is clocked at a lower speed to save battery :P
but you should set the mode too :P

because whe nusing th battery the laptop dose not use all thue power it needs (power saving) so it slower but with the mains it is unlimeted basicly.
If i get some more i will make a average.
