Creating a Forum. by Kenji on 11-25-2006 at 06:54 PM

Well, i have been meaning to ceate a forum for a long time for a group of people on a bunch of forums. This isnt going to be one of those "Oh, every one has a forum so im going to create one" kind of thing, i already have 3 admins and 5 mods chosen.:P. I ust need opinions on what fourum service to use, i know theres Mybb and vbulletin, but i just want to know about other forum service thingys..

Any suggestions?

Also, how much bandwith would a forum Use with roughly 200+ regular Members?

Thanks in advanced.

Maybe phpBB

  • phpbb - a fairly popular package
  • PunBB - not too widely known, very fast
  • IPB - not free but a great package
  • Vanilla - very ajaxy :P but the interface is a bit complicated
Personally I don't think vBulletin is very good, but MyBB is great :)

Punbb is really fast :O, il put that in my possible list :P
dont really like the vanilla one :P

So its either Phpbb or Mybb then, unless there is any others.

What about PunBB?

I still recommend MyBB :refuck:

WowBB (not free)

By the way, I'm not recommending it to you, I'm just posting other solutions :P
I still recommend MyBB.

Define fast :P
The actual server might be fast (if you define fast as the time waiting for the page to load), but the actual software slow :P

I dont own any forums, but I would say myBB is the most user-friendly.

Having used phpBB, vBulletin, SMF and IPB before, I personally would say use Invision Power Board. It is the most stable, easy to modify and professional system. They have a big company running it and have many other products coming out that integrate perfectly with it. There's also hundreds of free add-ons.

Just my opinion.

Just installed PunBB to test it on my server, but I miss features like split and merge and move.

(I know you can move entire threads but I meant on the post)

So I still recommend MyBB.

EDIT: Also the install of MyBB is easier :P

I am going with vBulletin, also my FTP will not upload anything, it says the disk space is full even though i have only used 5.7MB. Anyone have any ideas?

I use Invision.  I think it's pretty easy to use.

I once had an Invision board, Invision's the best, especially for admins, lots of nice little features like the admin notepad.
