needing help organizing my music by TheMusicPirate on 11-26-2006 at 07:02 PM

does anybody know a site that can tell me what genre the music i have belongs under?

i'm asking this because i am not good at telling what genre most of my music should be under. i have a very big mix of all sorts of music.

thanks.

EDIT: i'm sorry i forgot to mention it's in iTunes that i need my music organized. and its not music that i have purchased from the music store. these are albums that i have downloaded from bit torrent. and i know that most of the songs are not in the right genre. like the group called "puddle of mudd" the genre it was under was "blues". and i even know that it  is not blues music.

right click > properties > summary (> advanced)

only for mp3s, and not all have a genre assigned

Assuming the original genre was correct, yes...
But the case here is that he has files he is not sure of, and that he suspects/knows that many are incorrectly listed so he asked for somewhere to check to what genre the artist x or song y belongs.
I actually did this earlier today, and Wikipedia worked just fine. If you got a huge database it will be slow, but if you just have to check a couple of songs then it's not that bad.

I recommend http://www.allmusic.com

Might take some time to look all of it up, but hey... :P

I don't use the Genre in my iTunes Library, too much hassle ;)
