IE 6 problem - cookies by onetouchspark on 11-27-2006 at 10:04 AM

hello,
I have a prob with IE 6.
I think I majorly *** it up not knowing how though.
It doesnt save cookies, and it doesnt show pictures on the websites.I found the option to show pics in Tools-IE options - advanced- multimedia. However when I restart the computer these settings change and it doesnt show pictures again.Same for cookies. When I restart my pc it doesnt save any.
I tried to reinstall the explorer, but I cant even uninstall it first. :S
It's not in the programms list on add/remove thing, and either way it doesnt have uninstall option.

I'm using XP personal, SP 2.
Would be very grateful for help cos Im sick of logging in everywhere every time.

Go to Tools > Internet options/Settings > Security..make sure the level for Internet is set to "normal" (can also be done through privacy tab).

Install IE7 (it's got bugfixes). http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com should have it.

If not, try

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/default.mspx

I dunno if installing MSIE7 will help.

Also MSIE7 still has some other problems in it.

What she is experiencing sounds more like a settings problem (either in MSIE6, in her security software (antivirus, firewall, etc), or in some other area which can control internet access (eg: hosts file, connection settings, etc)).

I very much doubt this is a bug in MSIE6.

Though she should also make sure she has all the latest security fixes and updates for MSIE6 (and for the rest of her OS): http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/

Thanks for ur help.
My antivirus detected trojan..it was a trojan clicker.
I formatted my hard drive and reinstalled everything. But its there again.
Is it bcos of the system restore? I dont remember how to turn it off.:|
Im not sure its the same virus though, but I can never get rid of trojans in other way just formatting. :(
