Question (hotmail.co.uk account inactive) by AntJac on 11-29-2006 at 12:44 AM

Sorry if this has been asked already but i got an account question

My friends .co.uk account recently went to Inactive. However a couple of days after or so she signed into it so i was wondering how long she can sign into the account before everything goes?

RE: Question by Menthix on 11-29-2006 at 12:46 AM

A @hotmail.co.uk account or something else?

RE: Question by AntJac on 11-29-2006 at 12:47 AM

@hotmail.co.uk

sorry for not clarifying that

RE: Question by CookieRevised on 11-29-2006 at 01:36 AM

If it is a free hotmail account, it will be "inactive" if you didn't signed in within 30 days, or within the first 10 days after you've created an account.

When an account becomes "inactive" all e-mails, maps and contacts will be erased. The account itself will remain and can become "active" again once you sign in again...

If the account is still "inactive" after 90 days, it will be permanently removed.

----

If it is a payed hotmail account, it will remain "active" for as long as your subscription lasts.

Oh i see. Well she signed in 2 days after it became inactive and the account doesnt exist in the system according to WLM people but it hasnt been 90 days yet

Hmm, shouldn't the WLM login still work even if the actual mail account has expired?

RE: Question (hotmail.co.uk account inactive) by AntJac on 11-29-2006 at 05:33 PM

well i find it strange that the actual account cant be found in the system even though it hasnt been 120 days yet

Mail gets deleted, but you can still login WLM fine. Your WLM remains the same. A few of my friends dont have email accounts that are activated (I didn't activate one of mine on purpose and I'm on it right now)

And inactive means inactive in Hotmail/Windows Live Mail, not Windows Live Messenger.

Oh i see

But surely they must be able to see it on the system?

Its automated, unlike here.

And this has happened before, I forgot to use one of my emails and POOF, they're all gone.

EDIT: I just activated one of my accounts, I'll see what happens in 10 days.

Sorry to post in this thread again however i just recieved an email from Hotmal Support who said the following.

quote:
Hello Anthony,

Your message was forwarded to us at MSN Hotmail Technical Support. I sincerely apologize for not being able to respond to you sooner.  My name is Claire and I am responding to your concern on your friend's <removed>@hotmail.co.uk account.  I understand how important it is to have your concern addressed immediately.

Our records indicate that the mailbox associated with the e-mail address you have provided, <removed>@hotmail.co.uk, does not exist in our database. Please verify if this is the account in question.  If so, it is possible that you have not accessed this account through the Hotmail website (www.hotmail.com) for 120 consecutive days; thus, it was purged from our system.  If you wish to continue using this e-mail address, please reactivate it by signing in at: http://www.hotmail.com

I really do not get this as my friend signed in 2 days after the account became inactive yet they are saying it hasnt been accessed in 120 days?
RE: Question (hotmail.co.uk account inactive) by CookieRevised on 12-02-2006 at 01:08 AM

Like Nagamasa already said, accessing email and signing in to Messenger are two complete different things.

Messenger uses a .NET Passport or Windows Live ID, which _is_ your hotmail email address. But the Messenger service is something completely different than your e-mail service.

The "inactive" and other states are for your e-mail service.

Also, if you sign in to Messenger you do not sign in to hotmail. Again, because the two are quite different services.

PS: never ever post email addresses of other people in public. So please remove the email from that post.
