msgpluslive.com enhancement by Tawakol on 12-09-2006 at 03:11 PM

I played around with the homepage in photoshop a bit, and i made it look a bit better, i think this is how it should've been from the beginning.

RE: msgpluslive.com enhancement by ins4ne on 12-09-2006 at 03:14 PM

There is no difference. You only added a shadow :undecided:.

RE: msgpluslive.com enhancement by Tawakol on 12-09-2006 at 03:16 PM

i know..and i dunno about other ppl..but it looks better for the eyes that way..looks more natural, more web 2.0 kinda style

RE: msgpluslive.com enhancement by tony on 12-09-2006 at 03:16 PM

apart from the drop shadow, what else did you "enhance"?

RE: msgpluslive.com enhancement by Tawakol on 12-09-2006 at 03:18 PM

lol..not much, the site is actually gr8 as it is, i love its design, so i didn't want to change it..i only changed the font for the links at the top and added a better line between them

RE: msgpluslive.com enhancement by ins4ne on 12-09-2006 at 03:18 PM

You made that pic from a screenshot, right? What browser do you use??

But the whole fonts seem changed. Or is it my FF that's fuxed :|.
RE: msgpluslive.com enhancement by Tawakol on 12-09-2006 at 03:21 PM

firefox, i just went full screen and cropped the tab bar..why?

only fonts i changed were the the links at the top and the "the windows live messenger extension" at the top

RE: msgpluslive.com enhancement by ins4ne on 12-09-2006 at 03:24 PM

Strange... Your fonts seem to be a bit bigger. My fonts are thick and ugly compared to yours :(.

RE: msgpluslive.com enhancement by Tawakol on 12-09-2006 at 03:25 PM

lol, can you take a screenshot of it? :P

RE: msgpluslive.com enhancement by ins4ne on 12-09-2006 at 03:40 PM

There it is. Have a look. My fonts seem other than yours. Or is it me? Do i need glasses? :|

I like the shadow effect too its kinda blends in better ;)

btw its effect not affect
RE: msgpluslive.com enhancement by Tawakol on 12-09-2006 at 03:52 PM

@ins4ne..i see what you mean, thats because you don't have ClearType turned on. To turn it on, right click on ur desktop?go to properties>go to appearance>then go to effects>check the first option and choose ClearType from the drop down menu

RE: msgpluslive.com enhancement by Oxy on 12-09-2006 at 05:26 PM

Yeah, i like the idea of the shadow.
Should be considered.

RE: msgpluslive.com enhancement by Eljay on 12-09-2006 at 05:34 PM

thats not an enhancement, enhancements are supposed to make it better not worse

RE: msgpluslive.com enhancement by MX-G on 12-09-2006 at 05:36 PM

the shadow looks nice, only with a few of changes could be more nice than that one :P

RE: msgpluslive.com enhancement by Tawakol on 12-09-2006 at 05:37 PM

and why does it look worse? ur the only one who complained so far..everyone else likes it

RE: msgpluslive.com enhancement by MX-G on 12-09-2006 at 05:38 PM

a few changes in the borders and it looks perfect :)

the grey background combined with the shadows just make the layout look dull, it looks much nicer and cleaner without them.

Everybody told you you didn't make an enhancement, just added shadows ;). And 2 guys said it was good. Wait a bit and there will be more then more users will give their oppinion...

RE: msgpluslive.com enhancement by Rolando on 12-09-2006 at 05:52 PM

I like it the way it is right now. I agree with Eljay..

RE: msgpluslive.com enhancement by ins4ne on 12-09-2006 at 05:53 PM

Me too but i didn't want to disappoint the guy :(. Never change things when they are good ;) they can just become worse...

RE: msgpluslive.com enhancement by elektra on 12-09-2006 at 06:11 PM

Its nice but it wouldnt fit in with the forums much...
Theres nothing "broken" with the current theme so why "fix" it

RE: msgpluslive.com enhancement by Tawakol on 12-09-2006 at 06:14 PM

I am not fixing it, thats why i left the base idea the same..i am just trying to improve it :) how about this?

RE: msgpluslive.com enhancement by ins4ne on 12-09-2006 at 06:17 PM

I don't see any changes? What is it this time...

Oh wait. The fonts are a bit darker blue 8-)...

well, i took off the "dirty white" background :P and i added some kind of border to the boxes, or looks a bit more "3d-ishly glassy" now, and i increased the contrast a bit
RE: msgpluslive.com enhancement by ins4ne on 12-09-2006 at 06:23 PM

I see. The colors are more flashy. And the '3d thingy'... No Wai. Looks like a thin line around the boxes :P

RE: msgpluslive.com enhancement by Tawakol on 12-09-2006 at 06:30 PM

well..if u compare it to the WLM window (esp the chat window), thats exactly how it looks :P i wanted to keep a little nativity too ;)

RE: msgpluslive.com enhancement by ins4ne on 12-09-2006 at 07:33 PM

Well 'exactly how it looks'. But when you have another color selected than the standard blue it's diffrent :P.

RE: msgpluslive.com enhancement by Nagamasa on 12-11-2006 at 12:13 PM

They're pretty nice, and i like the 2nd one better.

Except...someone will need to tone down the green...too dark.

RE: msgpluslive.com enhancement by Tawakol on 12-11-2006 at 11:37 PM

well..my proposal isn't the colors..its the shadow..so the green doesn't matter if its green or purple

RE: msgpluslive.com enhancement by ins4ne on 12-11-2006 at 11:38 PM

And the shadow is a bit dodgy... Try something new.

RE: msgpluslive.com enhancement by Nagamasa on 12-12-2006 at 01:22 AM

Less shadow in between the boxes?

It looks like gray in there rather than a shadow.

*constructive criticism* do not mistake it for anything else. Thank you.

RE: msgpluslive.com enhancement by Val on 12-12-2006 at 03:31 AM

Sorry but the shadow kills it :( It doesn't really blend in and it looks very tacky. After all try to be more original and come up with something new, all websites that try to make it Web 2.0 style all look the same and where is the originality in that?

That's just my 2 cents

RE: msgpluslive.com enhancement by surfichris on 12-12-2006 at 05:13 AM

Shadows suck and definitely aren't "Web 2.0".

Shadows are only nice if they're small and fit the site/design. IMO those don't.

Further to that, shadows everywhere is a huge mistake as it wrecks the contrast between various elements and text on the page - they don't help improve usability of a site when applied in a "large" scale. As has been said, it makes the site look tacky - because shadows are exactly that, tacky.
