Do you have any add-ons installed for bookmarks?

Nope, none at all.
RE: Mozilla firefox bookmarks problem. :/ by ins4ne on 12-10-2006 at 07:52 PM

Hm ok. Then I'll have to search a bit more. I never had such problems...

You say when you right-click on a page and select 'add bookmark for this page' then happens nothing? right?

Which one? That's a very strange issue. I don't know any programs that use FFs bookmark.html :S.

Are you sure to not have any bookmark manager thingy add-ons installed?? Because it's the only thing I can imagine to cause problems :/.

double checked the add-ons, nothing to do with bookmarks is installed.

Firstly, verify that:
C:\Documents and Settings\<Oxy's username>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<Random alphanumeric>.default\bookmarks.html
exists.

If it does, open it up in your browser. It should simply look like a list of links grouped under heading (these are the menus and links of your current bookmarks).

If the file appears corrupt, move it, and restart firefox. Your bookmarks should now be blank - you can manually recover them from the bookmarks.html file - that's why we didn't delete it.

If that doesn't work, I'm out of ideas.

Um, check to see if Tab Mix Plus is installed. One of the last updates (0.3.5.1; NOT 0.3.5.2) fucked up the bookmarks and other stuff.

Have you tried doing a full uninstallation clearing all bookmarks/favorites and on the installer chose the option to not import bookmarks

Start -> Run -> firefox -profilemanager

Create a new profile, and try again :P

No :S

Try using the full path, like this:

code:
"c:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -profilemanager

Also, make sure FF is closed when you do this.

I had the same prob, but I managed to fix it. Just follow the steps below.

Goto the Application Data>Mozilla....etc. and find the "bookmarkbackups" forlder.
Copy it somewhere safe (like your Desktop).
Then go to Control Panel->Add or Remove Programs. And Uninstall FireFox.

The most important step:

Goto Application Data dir and completely delete the Mozilla folder.
Also don't forget to Delete the "Mozilla FireFox" folder in "C:/Program Files".

Now you can download and install a fresh version of mozilla ForeFox, and import the bookmark backups from your desktop. All problems and bugs should be gone.
