dont know what is happening, but after i instaled msn  8.1, both public beta that were releases, my cpu usage goes up to 100% while logging in, and stays a long time with that..
when im with plus uninstalled that doesnt happen
does anyone is  having that same problem??

What build do you have?
Go to Help > about, then see what version you have.



I have got a very low usage of about 02 on CPU and is only using about 20mb RAM

build 8.1.0168

but the same thing was happening with the previous version...
i thought that the new msn version gonna fix that.. but it didnt..
so i think its a msgplus bug =/

yeah.. with msn 8 that doesnt happen
and with 8.1, if i uninstall msg plus that doenst happen too..
the problem is  8.1 + msgplus  =/

Have you even tried it without msgplus?

What scripts do you have? Some scripts could cause high CPU usage.

i have no scripts installed
the high cpu usage happens when im loggin in, and stays for a while.. cant say how many time
but thats annoying me a lot

the strangest thing is that isnt msnmsgr.exe that is consuming CPU resources... its the System process that does

can you try disabling chat logs and tell me if it fixes it? also, can you find out some reason that triggers the high cpu load?

I had very similar problems like Maikel has. I ended up uninstalling both WLM and MP!L completely and reinstalling both again after reboot since I didn't have the time for a pretty solution, right now everything runs fine on the new build.

Ok scrap that, i rebooted the new WLM and it choked. When Plus! was installed, whenever I opened up the contact list, it'd die, and without plus! a conversation box would make it crash. So i reverted to the latest stable version, which is the first ever time I have ever needed to do that!

However the CPU didn't overload, just jumped to 50% for a split second before it crashed!

You might want to give us your CPU type and everything.

Well, I'm having the very same problem. With WLM 8.1 the process "System" uses all my CPU, making it impossible to chat, when it doesnt crash instantly.

Still trying to find a solution for that.

My Specs: P4 1.7Ghz, 512Mb RAM, WinXP SP2

If anyone has a clue, plz help

BTW, Im having that problem with or without MP!L.. And its only on 8.1.xxx
On 8.0 I never got such problem

Yeah it happen to me too, even on 8.0. It happen after i reinstalled 8.0 (I didn't upgrade to 8.1 Beta)

Well it's just annoying where my CPU fan will spin fast and usage rose up for awhile... But beside that it does't bother me... it Doesn't cash and only happen when I logged in.

If it only happens when you log in, then that is quite normal and not a bug at all.... When you log in Messenger does an extreme lot of stuff, of course your CPU usage is going to be higher then. And if it is the top most application running at that moment it automatically gets all the available CPU usage.

When you start up any other program (eg: Word or whatever) your CPU usage will go up too. That is how Windows works (and thank god for that, otherwise programs would randomly slow down etc)...

i've also a problem with WLM 8.1 and MSN Live Plus.
Since i installed the WLM 8.1 every time i receive a ne conversation or a Message with smilies, the messenger hang up. After a short time it will continue working.
I've disabled all plugins/scripts and i don't use any smilieplugins or i never had installed such a programm.

I hope it is a bug and it will be fixed, because 2 computers, same problem. With 8.0 no problems.

I disabled Text-logging, it alsa hang up.

Yeah I have the latest versions (WLM 8.1.0178.00) and MPL 4.11.0.254 and whenever I log in it freezes for like a minute. Then when I start conversations or when people log in it freezes again. Then after like 5 minutes it's kinda normal. But it does freezes times to time. It's really annoying. I might switch back to 8.0.

ive got exacly same problem.when my msn is off my computer flies! whenever i login (with messenger plus! on) the System runs at 100% all the time and it freezes all my other programs.
the only way to go down is to minimize my msn. but still if som1 sign in or send me a msg the System goes 100% again for long long time

is there gonna be any fix for that?

You guys seem to know what you're talking about. There must be an inherent problem cause my PC hangs with 100% CPU usage everytime I try to use Windows Messenger Live and I've uninstalled and reinstalled several times.When this happens task manager says "Not responding" This situation remains until I close Wndows Messenger! HELP!!

i did

To all that have this strange problem

I had the same problem for 24 hour and it made me crazy till I find a solution.
At first make the size of login screen to max then push the sign in button if you logged in with out problem and you saw the contact list you have this strange problem so that I got, must recently you add some person that he put some text beside of his nick name that caused this problem easily remove the most recently add contact or check that which one of your contact changes its text and remove that person to solve this problem for me it was one contact form china special Chinese sentence.
I hope it could help you it works fine for me.
I only opened one account here to help other people and I think this is my first and last post.
