[Release] Stickynotes by deAd on 12-17-2006 at 09:25 PM

Stickynotes is a script that lets you add and manage notes on the screen. They appear in customizable windows that can be modified in various ways.

In the image above, the larger note is using the Messenger color (which can be selected by setting a note's color to white) and the smaller one is collapsed and set to red. Stickynotes cannot be resized smaller than the larger note shown, but they can be collapsed.

All Stickynotes are customizable. You can change the text (including title), size, color, position (), transparency, appearing effects, order of buttons, which buttons are shown, and their theme. In the image above, the theme being used is Square (the available themes are Square, Flair, and Simple).

Download at Script Database (version 1.0.000): http://www.msgpluslive.net/scripts/view/213/
Stickynotes requires Plus! version 4.11 or above.

Please report any bugs or suggestions you may have. Enjoy!

RE: [Release] Stickynotes by DarkMe on 12-17-2006 at 09:32 PM

Good script (y)
* DarkMe downloads
Works well =p

RE: [Release] Stickynotes by Jimbo on 12-17-2006 at 09:34 PM

I <3 this script so much, expecially the fade in thing.
This is probably impossible but it would be good if you could click buttons/things behind the sitcky notes but leave the sticky notes always on top, if u know what i mean lol
Also, make an about window lol

RE: [Release] Stickynotes by Spunky on 12-17-2006 at 09:35 PM

Awsomeness in a 2 litre bottle! Was going to make something similar, but this kicks it's ass :p Great job (Y)

In the next version, right clicking on a note will make it act like the floating contact windows in Plus!. It will hide itself for a short time :)

RE: [Release] Stickynotes by Kenji on 12-17-2006 at 09:38 PM

* Kenji sexes the fade

Great script :cheesy:

EDIT: Maybe add an option to have it on always on top or not :P

and animated collapse would be hot :cheesy:

RE: [Release] Stickynotes by prashker on 12-17-2006 at 09:41 PM

Fade ftw.

Awsome script :cheesy:

RE: [Release] Stickynotes by vaccination on 12-17-2006 at 09:41 PM

yayness for deAd. <33

*downloads*

RE: [Release] Stickynotes by Thor on 12-17-2006 at 09:43 PM

deAd: Feature reguest, possibility to choose where on the screen, as in Always on top, always on bottom, pin to desktop, etc :)

Except from that, awesome (Y)

RE: [Release] Stickynotes by ins4ne on 12-17-2006 at 09:45 PM

Great script :D. I love the fade and the few but very powerful options ;). But what is the difference between Simple and Flair? Is it only the 'header' of the note? Flair has got those 'live'ish lines in it.

(Y) for you deAd

RE: [Release] Stickynotes by Jesus on 12-17-2006 at 09:50 PM

Nice script, just one thing:
I have white as my default WLM color, so every new note appears as a white one with white text, making it unreadable. If I change the color everything is fine.
maybe you should add a default color (which can be changed in prefs ofcourse) or change the text color if the chosen color is too light.

apart from that, great script!

lol @ size of the prefswindow btw :P

edit: Oooh just found out that the white color makes half of the options window unreadable too... that's also why I missed the default color part ;)
also, disable vertical resizing when the window is collapsed :P

why? apply never does that...
that's what it's for, "OK" without closing...

No hit 'Apply' and leave the window open is good to change some appearence options and then see the effect. e.g the slide or the wipe. Otherwise you must reopen the prefswindow everytime.

Added to my potential feature list :)

There's more than just the two options in the window, click the three buttons on top :P Flair has the "live"-style lines (known as Flair or Vapor) and also another gradient, it has a more soft look.

Will try but as the windows are custom painted by Plus! I don't know if it's possible to do -- I can try to intercept the messages though, shouldn't be a big problem.

RE: [Release] Stickynotes by tony on 12-18-2006 at 02:10 AM

its fucking awesome man :D

would be possible to add smileys? like:

" :) = :) ? "

RE: [Release] Stickynotes by NanaFreak on 12-18-2006 at 02:12 AM

ok i found a "bug" when you add a few notes it make the new lines just follow on and make the square symbol before it if your window is too small for the text to fit in... one way around this might be to make it a Edit Control with the Attributes ReadOnly ;)

RE: [Release] Stickynotes by Deco on 12-18-2006 at 02:21 AM

Great script deAd. Really impressive work.

Do you mind if I use your code to make other scripts?

Thanks

Probably not, but I may add [c] and [b] etc tags.

That's just a behavior of the Static control, I've noticed that as well. Also, an edit control with readonly attributes will look like crap :/ I don't think it's a very major problem honestly.

Go ahead, but please give me credit and tell me when they're done, I'd like to see what you turned it in to :refuck:
RE: [Release] Stickynotes by NanaFreak on 12-18-2006 at 03:48 AM

i was just looking through the script and i couldnt tell if these notes were user dependent or not... so are they??

a few suggestions:

1. able to change the text colour *
2. always on top button
3. be able to delete the previously used colours *
4. animate on collapse/expand
5. add formatting tags (bold, strike-out, maybe link)
6. not be able to resize when collapsed
7. make it on a user basis
8. the option, on mouse over change opacity
9. on right click hide for x mili seconds
10. when you hover over the collapsed one for x seconds expand the note
11. the choice to what direction the wind collapses to (e.g. top, bottom)

* without deleting / editing files (like with the config)

RE: [Release] Stickynotes by Felu on 12-18-2006 at 11:26 AM

Cool [Image: xso_cheesy.gif].

RE: [Release] Stickynotes by BraydenP on 12-18-2006 at 02:56 PM

Hello,

This is a cool script i rate it 9/10. .. (Y) ..

The only problem is, When you set it to 100% transparent.

You cannot see it, I was there for like 5 minutes trying to find the button to change it back to normall.

So maybe put in somthing to only make it like 75% transparent.

If it did not go 100% transparent i would rate it 10/10. .. (Y) ..

Thanks,

BraydenP.

1. Maybe
2. There will be settings for this in another version
3. This is something I was not able to get into the release version, will be there soon
4. Already done, but yet to enable because it's a slight bit choppy (it just needs tweaking)
5. It may use the plus! formatting tags in the future
6. Already requested, I'm working on it
7. Possible, pretty likely
8. There will be settings for this in another version
9. It will be middle click, just like the floating contact windows
10. Maybe
11. Go to Options. If you check "Collapse Down" it will go down, otherwise it'll collapse upwards

The transparency slider does not allow you to go all the way 100% transparent, the lowest transparency is one I thought was good. I will increase it a little bit in the next version :)
RE: [Release] Stickynotes by NanaFreak on 12-19-2006 at 10:25 AM

Bug: every so often when i click Refresh Notes it takes the current note away... but when i go looking in \Data\Stickynotes.xml the note is still there :/

RE: [Release] Stickynotes by BraydenP on 12-19-2006 at 11:22 AM

Hello,

I don't think this is a bug but what happens to the position of the StickyNotes after 15 refreshes? .. ^o) ..

Print Screen Before And After 15 Refreshes:

The gaps between the 2nd column of 5 StickyNotes.

That's what i mean by they have moved position.

Thanks,

BraydenP.
RE: [Release] Stickynotes by zach on 12-19-2006 at 12:48 PM

Awesome, but for some reason they aren't working for me. When I click "add note", nothing happens.
I only have MP!L v4.01.0.240 and 8.0.0812.00 if that makes a difference.

This is like the feature I requested here.

RE: [Release] Stickynotes by Steven on 12-19-2006 at 12:51 PM

Very very very nice script! I'm unorganized so this can help me. I have no suggestions because it's already pretty good. Great work. As you can tell i"m very excited to go try out some notes some more. Bye

It might... Always make sure you have at least the latest version of Plus!.

Along the way, many things have changed and/or added in the scripting engine and not every script takes this in account (maybe because there isn't a clear "what's different" page somewhere.. unfortunatly).

You need the latest version for this script to work.

As for everyone else's bugs, I'm working on them!

Can you describe this a bit better? Is there anything in the debugger?

Then you might wanna make that mandatory for your script to start. Aka: check on the version of Plus! and show a warning (with link to official Plus! site) if the user doesn't have 4.11.

if (MsgPlus.Version < 4.11) {
    // some message
}

PS: Use the less than operator and not the equality or identity operators as there is no garantee that the returned version number is exact as it is a floating point number which has possible rounding inaccuracies (though it will always be slightly higher and never lower). See docs.

Good idea :) Until the next update I've edited the main post with the download.
RE: [Release] Stickynotes by Pure_BY on 12-20-2006 at 08:17 PM

Nice script. I have some suggestions, though:

-- Ability to make the notes visible on desktop only (not always on top)
-- Simpler look (I don't need all this colored gradient things, icons, etc, it looks really ugly on my desktop. I'll be glad with ability to set it to a white or yellow single-color square, with a dark grey 1-pixel frame).
-- Docking to screen edges

1. Already suggested :)
2. Try the Simple theme, with all buttons removed (except edit, you can't remove edit), and a custom color (can't be white though).
3. Possible in later update :)

How about a "Heads Up Display" similar to the F8 function in the Yahoo! Widgets program so that they are only visible on there?

Click here for a screenshot (it's about 3MB but cba to resize :refuck: )of the type of thing I mean (I took this screenshot a few months ago and don't have the program anymore... I think :s)

RE: [Release] Stickynotes by deAd on 12-21-2006 at 01:37 AM

@deAd:

hey mate I have updated to the new version (1.1.106) and there are appearing some problems that I hadn't before... like for example a problem with the registering of the hotkeys... I think that there ir a compatibility problem with the poligami! script and you haven't try it with several accounts opened... the other problem is that I disable the hotkeys feature in your option panel... and the script follow trying to register the hotkeys... that's very illogic... cause if you disable it is because you don't want hotkeys...

and I suggest you a kind of HELP feature in the script where you can read how to use everything of it... and actually will be very very interesting of see your script in multilanguages (I can help with spanish)...

Nice to know that I help you! I am not talking about you... so rate me good jajajaja :o) just kidding...)

btw: with the reply I did to tell you the bug... I reached the 100th post!!! :o)
RE: [Release] Stickynotes by kao on 01-27-2007 at 04:25 PM

You should make it so the notes can still be dragged accross monitors with snap to edges option on (e.g. it snaps, but if you drag it further then it goes accross like normal). Also, if the snap to edges option is turned off and a note is moved to the secondary monitor, if snap to edges is turned on then the note just appears back on the primary monitor.

Hmm, interesting...I can't test this out myself as I only have one monitor but I'll see what I can do.
EDIT: I think I know the problem here, should be in the next version with warmth's fix too.
