OBEs/Knighthoods and the like by Fuse on 12-23-2006 at 02:38 PM

Bono* recently got an Honorary knighthood, who do you think deserves a knighthood from the queeny?

in the old days to get an obe you must do something outstanding for the good of the biritsh empire, but now you just have to do something outstanding for the world.

i think that patchou deserves one :p just kidding..

who do you guys think should get an OBE?

i dont, i think it preserves patrioticism. the percentage of british people who are proud to be british vs the percentage of americans that are proud to be american.

the british would easily have a larger percentage and i dont think that percentage would be there if there wasnt a royal family.

however i do agree with you that royalty in the time where they ruled everything was pathetic. but now in britian we have consitutional monarchy. which preserves heritage [and ups patrioticism] and gives the people a chance to vote who they want in parliment.

the royal family are just  figure heads, but i'm glad they are there.

:d but each for their own i guess :d

they get paid for what they do, the majority of princes are in the army, the queen is the head of state. they work for the country. they get paid exaclty how much they work. they do not just laze around. even prince charles has commonwelath duties.

The people. No matter what we have, we're always looking for something better. Yes, at the moment, our health care system is "failing" but then again compared to most third world countries, our health care is astounding.

However, I do agree that "chavs" are a major "problem". There are areas in this country where people are "terrorised" by young... "individuals". However, the problem lies in the fact that we're too "politically correct" to do anything about it.

Back to the original topic, yes, I think Bono deserves a knighthood. A lot more than some people who have already been knighted. (Bill Gates isn't exactly an example of this unfortunately, he pumps millions of dollars into helping people).

Agreed.

(I'm half welsh.)
RE: OBEs/Knighthoods and the like by bio_hazard13 on 12-24-2006 at 02:17 AM

Again, back onto the original topic.  I think Bono deserves a knighthood especially when you compare him to some people who have OBEs and MBEs in the last few years.  i mean giving them to the england cricket team after they won the ashes back for the first time in like 18 years was a bit of a joke.  Even though i am an australian i just cant understand how they would justify that.  And now the england team have given in straight back to the australians :P
