Vista 64 bit edition + Anti virus by joemailey on 12-28-2006 at 11:57 AM

I've been testing vista for while now.

Only been testing this in work. As i ain't allow to install it on my home pc. be nice thou if i cud get it free for home lol

I been testing windows vista 32bit for while.
I decided to do fresh install this time using 64bit edition of vista. as my machine is running a core 2 duo 2.66GHz processor and 2GB of memory.

I was a big bit surprised when i notice no anti virus programs worked with vista 64bit.

Symantec , McAfee , AVG and few others.

So far only vista compatible Anti Virus i have found is
Avast- Yes that includes the Free edition of avast also
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast-antivirus-and-windows-vista.html

Althou symantec will give you free upgrade when they release a compatible vista anti virus.

I like what i've seen of vista so far. The copy i have i've only tested on my work pc. So i'm going to buy vista as soon as its released for my home pc.

Just such limited drivers and other stuff released for it yet. Can't wait until all manufactures and software developers make everything compatible.

I thik its gonna make one hell of an O/S. Esp since i already have a prefromance boost compared to how my PC run on XP.

keep in mind i not even using proper drivers.

Well consider its the official public release date, I'd like to hope so.

On the drivers side dell and stuff will be shipping pc's with vista i assume from end of jan. so you would like to think there video drivers etc, shud be ready

RE: Vista 64 bit edition + Anti virus by joemailey on 12-29-2006 at 12:00 PM

I'm not sure, I know its works on XP 64bit.

quote:
System Requirements

    * Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 Edition
    * Microsoft Windows 2003 Server x64
    * Intel 64-bit or AMD Athlon 64 processor

But as far as i'm aware its not compatible with vista 64bit. According to there site it doesn't mention vista compatibility.

Note - Vista 64bit is completely different from way 32 bit version works.

as every Anti virus Including AVG worked on vista 32bit but not on 64bit OS.
