that image is an... image :P...

So if you don't have a copy of the original, you wont be able to 'retrieve' or 'set it to default'...

PS: there never was a 'default' to begin with, as it is just an image file put on your PC by whoever installed the OS or modified it to an OEM version.

This is just the same as with Messenger's lvback.gif background file.

as original you mean legal?  if thats the case yeah my copy is legal.

I mean 'original'  as in what you call 'original'. The file which was originally by default there... Which can also be understood from:

which should actually already say enough about it ;)

I've not spoken of legal or illegal in my post.

ok :) just making sure, mine used to say compaq something :P, i have notice that some pcs have the microsft genuine logo and thats wat i wondered :)

RE: bring back defaults by CookieRevised on 12-30-2006 at 09:05 AM

It's just a random image... no matter what it says... The 'genuine' etc, doesn't mean a thing, it is just an image: C:\WINDOWS\system32\OEMLogo.bmp

By default, as in original out-of-the-box when you buy Windows, it doesn't even have an image (just like Messenger's lvback.gif). The image is meant for companies to display their logo and is mostly used for OEM versions of Windows, so the company who distributes the OS pre-installed can put an image there (mostly their logo).

eg: on Compaq PC's where Windows is already pre-installed, chances are high, the image would be the Compaq logo...

The same thing goes for the company string on the right of the image, and the info shown when you click on the button "support" beneath it. Which is all store in C:\WINDOWS\system32\oeminfo.ini.

Here's a copy of the Compaq oemlogo.bmp if you want it...

its a PNG, so best quality you can get. In other words: crop the image you want out if it and save it as a BMP in C:\WINDOWS\system32\OEMLogo.bmp and you have your logo ;)
