What changes would you like to see on the internet? by Lourix on 01-04-2007 at 02:25 PM

What changes would you like to see on the internet or on a website?
For me I would like massive index which you could search and submit sites for free. A index that everyone would use to look up their favorite sites.

Also I would like certain people to stop telling me that my posts are useless because its interesting what people think.

RE: What changes woud you like to see on the internet? by Eljay on 01-04-2007 at 02:29 PM

I would like to see less noobs posting threads about what changes they would like to see on the internet.

I'd like quicktime to die.

But no one say abolish spam, it gives me lots of entertainment, just got this brilliant email (just an excuse to get through filters with a jpeg advertising viagra, but nvm):

Isn't that what DMOZ is?

A change to IPv6 would be pretty cool. But what i'd also like to see is microformats used on all webpages, so things like menu elements can be extracted by computer programs, which would lead to really cool stuff being done with web browsers.

I'd want to have more generous people giving away high-class programs, shows, movies, music and/or whatever that needs ot pay on the internet that allow everyone to download directly and not via any dodgy methods that screwed up most of the time.

RE: What changes would you like to see on the internet? by Oxy on 01-04-2007 at 05:03 PM

Not so much the internet, but just as a neat idea.
I'd like to see microsoft release a free, but basic OS. One that you cant get all these fancie things (IE7, WMP11 ect..) but just bug fixes and such. Something which is just a basic version of windows, with little features, and crappy graphics.
And who knows? that might even lift microsofts buisness up a 'lil.

I want that to die, along with RealNetworks... and MySpace! :zippy:

Digital Rights Management (DRM) and other forms of copy protection need to go away. They don't work, and just create problems for everyone.

Net neutrality and freedom and privacy need to be supported and preserved.

And yeah, higher speeds would be nice... more use of fiber-optic networks and stuff... :p

* WDZ can't be bothered to think of more things to write at the moment. :spam:

I agree with WDZ, down with realnetworks. IPv6 would be nice, so would free WiFi in my part of town

RE: What changes would you like to see on the internet? by Thor on 01-04-2007 at 07:58 PM

I'll like to see everyone who make stupid comments go. Seriously, they live on Digg & YouTube, they give the websites and the Internet a bad name. i.e. Conspiracy theorists, atheists who mock religion, and of course those who just upload videos of happy slapping ...

The internet would be a better place if msghelp members didn't feel the need to change names once a week.

I'd like to see everyone comply to the same standards. For example IE not rendering a page wildly different to other browsers :P

I'd also love for it to be compulsary to have a bit of knowledge about what is lame in terms of website design before you're allowed to post anything that involves writing your own mark up. It would get rid of all those lame myspace profiles and freewebs sites

Other than the I think more open access to information (as long as the info is suitable for public domain :P)

So far, I get only two spams since the day I created my account that's like in July 2004 :P
RE: What changes would you like to see on the internet? by ins4ne on 01-05-2007 at 02:08 AM

I got an adress from my ISP. Years ago and I was intelligent enough to give it out everywhere and to everyone. Sometimes I check it to see if I haven't got an email from my aunt in America. Then I need to download 15.000+ emails and after that I see I haven't got one from my aunt ¬¬.

Anyways. I have my main email now. And don't share it again ;).

I'd like MySpace and Facebox to die. People spend way too much time on 'em.

It's ok if they are destroyed, but there should be enough fallback networks to route over. In the case of Taiwan that wasn't possible.

In Europe and the USA, that wouldn't happen cause there are more IX's so if one dies the packets are routed of the others.

But still, when AMS-IX went down during the black-out on the SciencePark half the internet wasn't accesable.

But I guess that was just a configuration error by the ISP's that they didn't switch to other IX's yet, so half the packets were dropping.

WIFI would be nice everywhere it would be a whole lot easier for everyone. But I doubt you would get it for free everywhere.

Go free Wi-fi! I must say, if there was Wi-fi everywhere, wireless products that use Wi-Fi would be a lot more useful, and actually be completely Portable. For example, if you want to use the Internet on a PSP, you have to be near a Wi-Fi connection. And you cant move the PSP out of the connection area, so its isn't really 'portable'. It just a 'mini' PS2.
