Is there software or a site that can tell you the best port to use for port fowarding? I need it for utorrent, can anyone help?

You can use any above 1024, but recommended is 45000 to 65000.

Welcome to the µTorrent Port Checker.
A test will be performed on your computer to check if the specified port is opened.

Checking port 45000 on 86.138.109.151...

Error! Port 45000 does not appear to be open.

Ive tried with like 20 other ports, and they all come up with the same message. :(

That's because you are suppost to forward the port you want to use yourself in your router/modem config.

Look it up in the manual, if you need help, tell us them make and model of your router/modem.

Open doesn't only mean they're not being used, but also it's possible to transfer data by that port.

Do what MenthiX said, as you'll need to open the ports on your modem/router and firewalls.

RE: Open/Best Ports by Fuse on 01-05-2007 at 07:03 PM

I Use The BT Home Hub

RE: Open/Best Ports by YottabyteWizard on 01-05-2007 at 07:11 PM

You'll have to go to bthomehub.home

Hub Manager username: admin
Hub Manager password: admin
(Note: ‘admin’ is case sensitive.)

Now, I was unable to find any instructions in how to change the ports, but I assume it will be under 'Advanced'

EDIT: FOund it.

"Advanced"

"Log on as different user"

Enter "admin" for pass and name.

"Toolbox"

"Game and Application sharing"

1. "Create a new game or application" (if yours isn't in the list)

2. "Assign a game or application to a local network device"

Select the "Game or Application"

Select your "device" (your network card's MAC address by default)

"Add"

Ze end.

Also utorrent has UPnP support, you might try that.

Works great, just don't use Hamachi, cause it breaks the utorrent UPnP :P
