i installed msgplus!live and it installed perfectly, but then i log into windows live messenger and its the same as if nothing was ever installed, i dnno what happened, and i was wondering if someone could help.

1) Answer either or :

    Do you have sweetim or smiley central installed at the moment?

    Did you have ever sweetim or smiley central installed?

2) Do you have the latest version of Both Windows Live Messenger (for 8.0 users latest is: 8.0.0812.00 and for 8.1 BETA users it is: 8.1.0168.00_ClientV8.1) and Messenger Plus! Live (version 4.11.251)?

3) Do you have something Like Windows Live One Care installed?


Once these questions are answered I think we will be well on our way to solving it.

i have windows live messenger 8.0.08.12.00 and messenger plus!Live version 4.11.254 is that different?

3) Do you have something Like Windows Live One Care installed?

OK have you tried using Messenger Plus! Live with the latest 8.1 BETA? See if that helps. A link to help you along is http://ideas.live.com

i have tried the beta version of windows live messenger, and the latest version of windows live messenger, and uninstalled them and reinstalled, but it still has no effect, my other friends that have it, there text just shows up in []'s and has no effect on my screen, but it works for them.

After months, I finally found a solution to this problem . First uninstal MsgPlus, after you removed it be sure that MSN Messenger is not running, go in the "Program Files" dir, and then copy and paste the "MSN Messenger" directory, in this manner you should obtain another dir called "Copy of MSN Mesenger" or something like that. Now rename "MSN Mesenger" in "MSN Mesenger2", and then rename "Copy of MSN Mesenger" in "MSN Mesenger". At this point try to reinstall MsgPlus. For me this worked, even if it has no sense

That solution might only work for you, but for others it won't work because other messenger related add-ons are installed. This is why, following the solutions that are already provided in a number of threads are proven to work time and time again.

This solution worked for me because it wasn't a problem of MSN, but it was a problem of WindowsXP. Basically, almost every folder in my program files dir was locked, i couldn't write, delete and even rename a single file in these folders. But if i rename the folder like i did for the MSN one, I don't have no more this problem for such folder. I don't know why. However I'm sure this is not caused by a virus, worm & co., i've scanned my pc multiple times with different antiviruses , and also i've formatted it many times to understand this problem (the last time was 2 weeks ago)
However, i've 2 PCs, 1 notebook and 1 desktop. I've this problem only with the desktop one, with the notebook I never experienced that problem

Well it sounds like your desktop has a dodgy Windows Installation done to it. How and what doesn't matter, what does matter is how you plan to prevent it from happening again
