Remote assistance problem by Woraug on 01-14-2007 at 03:46 PM

I've been having problems with remote assistance ever since I installed 8.0

Other people can connect to, and control my desktop, but I can't connect to theirs.  I get no window, and they tell me that the window comes up and hangs at "connecting".  I have remote assistance enabled in the remote settings, everyone I've tried with is using 8.0, we're both using XP Pro, ect.  I've tried to enable everything I can think of, but to no avail.  Any ideas?

Have you tried this?

Have you looked in your firewall settings?

I tried adding the reg entry, still nothing, and I have the Windows firewall disabled.

Do THEY have THEIR firewall on?

Firewalls are, of course, supposed to block stuff they see are dangerous.:P

I hope this isn't spam:$

Are you behind a router? I find whenever I try to connect to someone I have to remove my PC from the router first. I am too lazy to setup port forwarding.

or just set your pc to dmz (demilitarized zone - exposes 1 pc on network to internet)

No router, their firewalls off.
