Contact Problem by J.J on 01-24-2007 at 10:19 AM

Something very strange is happening with my WLM account atm. I haven't noticed any other threads around, or anyone complaining about it, so i guess it might be something thats happening to only a few people.

When i sign into WLM, an 'add contact' prompt displayed, asking if i want to add the person, however, that person is already on my contact list. When i click accept, it seems that either they are always displayed as offline to me, or I'm displayed ass offline to them. And it's not like the problem disappears. They are ALWAYS, or i am ALWAYS displayed as offline, nomatter how many times i sign in or out.

It's quite a frustrating problem, as some of these people i actually to wish to talk to.

Does anybody know what is going on? Or any solution that could resolve the problem?

Any help is GREATLY appreciated

Try clearing your contact cache. I remember reading it somewhere on these forums I think.

To attempt to fix, close down Messenger if it's running. Click Start > Run, and type:
%userprofile%\contacts
<enter>

If nothing appears in the folder, click the Tools > Options >View tab, click 'Show hidden files or folders' and click OK. Once youare able to see the folders, right-click the one that corresponds toyour Passport and choose Delete.

Next, click Start > Run, and type:
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Live Contacts
<enter>
Remove the corresponding folder again in this folder.

Restart Messenger and try signing in again.
This is what I did and it worked.

Thanks markee, seems to have worked.

@ MattyRid: Thanks, but next time maybe it would be better if the steps were explained :)
