Complete format... except for some files. (help) by Joe on 01-30-2007 at 08:28 PM

I have about 17 gigabytes of information and media I want to keep. The rest of my computer, I want to format and merge (my 3 partitions)

Any suggestions on how I should be sure keep my files?
(I don't have any removable media large enough)

Also some suggestions on how to successfully merge and format (and reinstall Windows XP on) my hard drive will be helpful.

i'd use partitionmagic to merge/make a partition around 20gbs in size, move all files there, then format the other partition (where windows in installed)

I'm pretty sure you can create a partition(let's say partition D:), move all the stuff you want to keep to that partition(D:) merge and format the other partitions(A: B: C:). Install windows on the newly merged partition(let's say C:) then copy the files from D: back to C: and then delete/merge D: into C:.

I hope this helps, and makes sense :P
