CPU Usage 100% Spikes by Pyroteq on 02-05-2007 at 06:23 AM

In recent times while playing my music through itunes, occasionally it will crackle, stop or make funny noises.
After looking at a few causes i found in task manager that when this happened my CPU usage was 100%

I find this a bit strange as it has never happened before, im not running any new apps (or that many: Messenger, Norton, Itunes, Firefox + system apps) and i have a Pentium 4 3.2Ghz Hyper-Threaded which is not at all a bad processor.

My top users are
System Idle process - '68' This also goes up into the 90's (As i understand it, this is unusual as that should drop as more CPU usage is required.)
Wmpnetwk, a windows media player network app for my 360 uses 2 and itunes uses 2, firefox uses 2 and a few other random things use a little aswell.

Funnily enough, this dosnt happen when im using Windows Media Player.

Help, anyone?

I'm sure there was a thread about this same subject, but after a bit of a search I can't find it...Deleted/moved?

:undecided:

EDIT: I'd probably find it if the search would just let me use three-letter words such as CPU...^o)

You'll probably find these spikes when the song changes and i found that it can crackle when the volume set in iTunes is at 100%, if you put it down to about 90% then it should be alright.  The reason for the spiking when changing the song is due to having the music accessible and all the song information displaying I presume.

No, it always happens in the middle or beginning of songs never when switching.
The volume thing didnt do anything either but thanks anyway

Does it by any chance happen when you use the Shift, Ctrl or Windows keys? This seems to have been something suffered by me and others using iTunes7.. It's not going anywhere, I had to change media player.

Why not searching on more logical (and longer than 3 letter) words like: usage, system, itunes, etc?

High CPU usage in 8.1
Messenger Plus! 100% CPU Crash Problem?
etc
(EDIT: wrong examples...slaps myself... thx Dr4g0n)

Please continue this discussion in existing threads to avoid cross posting, repeated questions/comments, etc...

AFAIK Pyroteq's problem is unrelated to the topics you posted since his relates to iTunes and not WLM or Plus!.

This topic however, posted by me a while back is the same problem. (Since it turned out it was doing this even when the tracks weren't changing.)

Note: CPU can be search on here by entering " CPU" (with the quotes) instead of just CPU.

Hmm thanks dr4g0n, seems that it hasnt stopped for you either? I guess i can live with it too.
