School games website by Nathan on 02-10-2007 at 07:03 PM

Meh,
I had kinda an inspiration too make a games website for my fellow friends at school
I will "borrow" games off miniclip and put credit of course and some other ones I know and put them all in one place... on this one I am creating.
I have a week to get lots of them and put them on, make a admin panel for me where I can add them myself etc..

I was wondering firstly what you think of this design for it - so far:
http://nathans-hosting.com/1.png

and secondly if there's anyone out there that would like to help me :P

I love you lot <3

Nathan :P

RE: School games website by pepsimax on 02-10-2007 at 07:05 PM

RE: School games website by Rolando on 02-10-2007 at 07:05 PM

The design looks great so far. Although, don't make the url of the site too obvious :p

RE: School games website by Nathan on 02-10-2007 at 07:06 PM

Well, I know html, css and a bit of php

I need people with skills of php to help me along and people who have the time to rip games off miniclip upload them and then add them via he admin panel :P

I didn't bother with a design. Just had about 10 links to different games which I uploaded (requested by people)

I'd be happy to help out, if you like...
I still got them games as well.
RE: School games website by user27089 on 02-11-2007 at 12:43 AM

It's a waste of time designing a website for something which will eventually be blocked, just do a simple design (like a normal directory or something) but more arranged.

You don't need 320838 images, you don't need any... just text and a few divs.

RE: School games website by Dr4g0n on 02-11-2007 at 01:09 AM

I agree with traxor, don't put too much effort in to the design; people want the games not a fancy site. Don't buy a domain for it, it'll only get banned soon enough and you'll have wasted money.

RE: School games website by Chris4 on 02-11-2007 at 02:15 AM

Here.. I uploaded my games site which I made for school friends.
* Chris4 doesn't feel so stupid now that traxor and Dr4g0n said that

RE: School games website by Plainwhite on 02-11-2007 at 03:17 AM

Why don't you just use Proxys to enter game sites such as miniclip and addictinggames?

At my school we launch a proxy with a VBScript, works wonders :P

what difference is there from launching IE from VBS and launching it from a shortcut? :/
RE: School games website by Eddie on 02-11-2007 at 06:07 AM

With the proxys that we used to use at my school on the internet, they were all blocked, so we all got hold of a VBScript that they couldnt block *-)

RE: School games website by Dr4g0n on 02-11-2007 at 11:34 AM

PHProxy ftw!

I been using that at school, they never blocked it because they thought I was on my school work (the path the the proxy was /work/school/) ^_^

How can you do that?
If i had one what do i do with it ?
Proxy sites in my school get blocked all the time, we have to wait untill theres new ones on the go.
RE: School games website by Nathan on 02-11-2007 at 12:44 PM

Basically I've had another idea!
It will have a button on the menu and you click it and it will displa some kind of earning page :P

like a geography map etc... :P

RE: School games website by John Anderton on 02-11-2007 at 04:29 PM

Does Nathan make anything other than images? :( I've never actually seen a working html/css design

And for the record, the best attempt at this (games site) that I've seen has been by smurfichris with his SurfiArcade. I actually played games on it until he revamped the site to its current design and (re)moved SurfiArcade.
So if its still there and anyone knows where it is, do let me know :) I'd like to play/use/develop/host it and add games on it.

I was actually going to post about this last night - then I decided going to bed was a better option (A).

I'm in the process of tidying it up so it may go back up later.
RE: School games website by Nathan on 02-12-2007 at 09:57 AM

Ok,
I need people to help me along... I am going to add a couple of features like "Hide me"which will popup google to hide it :P

Any other features request?

Also anyone to help me I will give you admin authority :)

Looks good so far Nathan.
When you minimize it, that usually means that a teacher has come along, so the option to detect when it has been minimized at then on restore/maximise it looks blank(just a page with nothing on it, white). Just an idea...

I hope the site is up and running by the end of half term.
RE: School games website by Eddie on 02-12-2007 at 02:21 PM

Yeah i like the idea of the site in general :) doesn't look to bad either :)

I like that idea but a quick click on the side would be much easier and quicker :)
RE: School games website by Nathan on 02-12-2007 at 03:22 PM

Well I have 401 games atm to upload :)

Im just finishing the request form - that goes to the admin panel :)

I've decided i may as well do this properly so i'm going to buy a domain except i need a domain name that has nothing to do with games :P

My school has a £50'000 firewall so if i can code it to get round that the chances are it will be unblocked at your school :)

I will also upload it too lots of diffferent servers.

Yay for fishy :cheesy: Hope you tell me when you put it back up. It was fun to play when I had nothing better to do :)

You might wanna change the Title to Google or something. Teachers can read the taskbar you know...

RE: School games website by andrewdodd13 on 02-13-2007 at 10:01 AM

Hey Nathan... my router totally killed my MSN account the other day. I'm not exactly sure what happened, but router went "Click" and now my password doesn't work. :|

Anyway, I've nearly finished :p.

RE: School games website by alewington on 02-21-2007 at 07:06 AM

i am all for school gaming sites nathan. i want to support your cause. and it just so happens that i have a globat hosting account with 5 spare domains. each with mySQL and everything u will need plus more. and between 20GB and 100GB space. so if you want pm me with what u need and i will set it up for u with your own personal .net/.com/.org domain. FOR FREE. if that will help

RE: School games website by vaccination on 02-21-2007 at 08:59 AM

I believe Nathan has more that enough hosting space.

RE: School games website by joey on 02-21-2007 at 03:41 PM

(seeing as he's got so much space) it would be really good if he made a web-based MSN/AIM sort of thing but im guessing that would be really hard. but pretty much every website that do it are blocked on the filtering system at my college, and i cant find a way around it.

RE: School games website by Nathan on 02-24-2007 at 08:58 AM

Yeah Im thinking of adding things like messenger to it becuase i want it just to be a school website

RE: School games website by joey on 02-24-2007 at 10:42 AM

meebo, messengerfx, webmessenger (the official one) ebuddy...the list goes on. but i cant use a proxy site to get on because they dont like it if your anonmyous or something.

Yes, all decent school proxies monitor the content of the page, along with the URL. So basically if one of my teachers thinks they see me on a game, they're going to check the logs, not come over only for me to hide it.
