Messenger Plus Sounds. by mandymoo212 on 02-11-2007 at 08:42 AM

ok yesterday [10/2/07] i found out that Messenger Plus sounds do not work.
i deleted Messenger Plus from my computer & reinstalled it. I still did not hear the sounds. I went on a music site [MySpace.com] and the music on there did not work. I checked my volume controls. that wasn't it. i reinstalled windows media player. that still didnt work. i re installed flash player. still didn't work.
what do i do to get ALL THE SOUNDS on th internet [including] Messenger Plus.
the music on my computer will play in windows media player. BUT NOT when i click on something and stream it!
i've checked the options in internet explorer. still nothing.
'play media' in options is checked.
i dont know how to fix it.
SOMEONE TELL ME WHAT TO DO!!
and i do not want to defragament my pc.
[operating system is windows xp media center edition]
[windows live version-8.1]
[Messenger Plus version-4.11.0.254]

Have you tried updating your sound drivers? Have you cross checked that all cables are in?

RE: Messenger Plus Sounds. by mandymoo212 on 02-11-2007 at 08:58 AM

if i can hear music on my computer, how come i cant hear them on the internet pages?

RE: Messenger Plus Sounds. by MattyRid on 02-11-2007 at 08:59 AM

Sounds drivers....as far as I know, windows sounds play regardless. Any other music such as music on the net and stuff need drivers to play.

RE: Messenger Plus Sounds. by mandymoo212 on 02-11-2007 at 09:00 AM

why would they not work now...
after.. like a year of beening on this computer.

RE: Messenger Plus Sounds. by MattyRid on 02-11-2007 at 09:02 AM

Drivers could be well out of date. Which could mean that cutting sound off is a way of telling you to stop being lazy and update them:P

RE: Messenger Plus Sounds. by mandymoo212 on 02-11-2007 at 09:04 AM

hahahaahahah,
and how do i do that?
sorry i am good with computers.. but some stuff i dunno about.

RE: Messenger Plus Sounds. by MattyRid on 02-11-2007 at 09:06 AM

OK firstly what needs to be known is is your sound on board (as in actually on your motherboard) or you do you use a sound card connected to the motherboard to hear sound?

RE: Messenger Plus Sounds. by mandymoo212 on 02-11-2007 at 09:08 AM

lol.
umm.
sound card.

RE: Messenger Plus Sounds. by MattyRid on 02-11-2007 at 09:09 AM

OK means if you go to my computer, right click and choose manage, then choose device manager, the under sound look for your sound card. An example is Realtek AC97.

RE: Messenger Plus Sounds. by mandymoo212 on 02-11-2007 at 09:11 AM

and thennnn?

RE: Messenger Plus Sounds. by MattyRid on 02-11-2007 at 09:12 AM

Google, download and install then try and see if it works...also check all cables are in and if possible also try with another set of speakers.

RE: Messenger Plus Sounds. by mandymoo212 on 02-11-2007 at 09:16 AM

ok.
im very confused.

RE: Messenger Plus Sounds. by MattyRid on 02-11-2007 at 09:17 AM

OK if you combine the instructions given in the last 2 posts, you will be able to one find out your sounds card and two update it. Then you check if that helps, if not check all cables are in properly or try with different speakers.

RE: Messenger Plus Sounds. by mandymoo212 on 02-11-2007 at 09:38 AM

i updated it.
now i have no sound at all

RE: Messenger Plus Sounds. by MattyRid on 02-11-2007 at 09:40 AM

hmm...did you check that you downloaded the right drivers for your operating system?

Hmm a system restore could be used...how long as it been happening for, as in the original problem?

RE: Messenger Plus Sounds. by mandymoo212 on 02-11-2007 at 09:40 AM

since yesterday, last night.

RE: Messenger Plus Sounds. by MattyRid on 02-11-2007 at 09:44 AM

OK lets try this...

1) Go start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System restore follow the wizard's instructions to go back to a date before the original problem started

2) When the computer starts up again, hold down F* and from the menu it presents to you choose "Last Known Good Config..".

See if any of that helps.

RE: Messenger Plus Sounds. by mandymoo212 on 02-11-2007 at 10:08 AM

i done that.
i can hear my media player sounds.
still nothing on the internet.

RE: Messenger Plus Sounds. by MattyRid on 02-11-2007 at 10:11 AM

Check all your volume settings as well...could be something there that could be giving you a bit of hassle.

RE: Messenger Plus Sounds. by mandymoo212 on 02-12-2007 at 05:12 AM

Hey, thanks for all of your help.
i realised what my problem was.
i put my headphones into the front of my pc,
NOT in the actual speakers (just to see if it was my speakers or computer)
and i had sound.
then i tried putting the headphone cord into the speaker socket, no sound.
so i realised it was my speakers.

i looked at the back of my computer where the speaker thing was plugged in, and i had it in the wrong socket.
i put it in the right one and it worked :)
im such an idiot.
lol, but thanks anyway :)

RE: Messenger Plus Sounds. by MattyRid on 02-12-2007 at 05:14 AM

No problem.

I suppose I can only say one thing...check all your cables are in!!! :P
